Post subject:  Tools

Looking to replace my tools which were lost in my divorce. Thinking of going with the Craftsman mechanic set the 200 piece set I believe it is. Is this a good choice any other suggestions?

thats about as bad as my first wife getting my Doberman and .......my Banjo, plus an 80 acre farm!

Craftsman are hard to beat, a lot of my tools are Craftsman and I have had them since back in the early 70s. Anything goes wrong free replacement!

I also have some Mac and Snap-On but trying to run down a truck is hard to do at times

they have a lot of different "sets" think about what you need the most, seems some are geared for more homeowner intead of mechanical type repairs. Also some have a ton of screwdrivers and not many sockets/wrenches

Why would a woman (unless she IS a mechanic) want the tools except to do it in spite. Just think some other man is enjoying your tools....and recovery strap (see thread posted in LOST).

X2,there ratchets suck.Snapon has some kick stupid ratchets, pricy but real nice. Most of my sockets and wrenches are Craftsman but gotta love my GearBox Gear wrenches 8) .All of my other tools are Snapon,MAC,Matco,or Cornwell.

That is the only reason. But what's really sad is any lawyer or judge who would allow that to happen.

Craftsmen tools are just about as good as any other. I have many. Although my Mac wrenches and Snap-On ratchet sets are my best hand tools.

Yep, my first lady kept the house, and for a while my entire 2 car garage with over 2 generations of tools and machinery, including my 69 Hemi Cuda, It took me almost a year an 3 lawyers to get it back, I got all the contents of the garage first, but the car took a bit extra work, she was planing on selling it for the money. but thanks to the big guy upstairs I got it all back. Anyway Craftsman for a long time since my dad was around, plus, Matco, snap-on, Both of my roll aways are Matco's.

Here's how good Craftsman's guarantee is:

We were changing the inside tire on a dually axle on one of my dad's work trucks. We were using a 1" drive heavy wall socket and a solid breaker bar (basically a 1" diameter bar with a 90 degree bend on the end and the lug for the socket machined on it). We had an 8' pipe over the breaker bar and there were three of us jumping up and down on the pipe trying to break the lug nut loose. The socket cracked instead! I took it in to exchange and the guy just went in the back and brought out a new one in a box. Just as he was handing it to me he hesitated and said, "just tell me one thing. . . how the hell did you manage to break that thing?". I told him the truth and he just laughed and handed me the new one. I have exchanged a few pieces over the years without a problem. Like Tom, I have Craftsman tools that are 35 years old and still my favorites.

Snap On's are great but spendy. I have a buddy that's a diesel mechanic that only uses Snap On. He figures that he has spent close to $40k on tools and boxes. It sure used to be nice to work at his shop when we still lived close to each other though

snap on is nothing special to me. Now I will say that the only ratchets I use now are my 3/8 and 1/2 locking flex head Matco ratchets will. Snap on is great for auto work since the tolerance of the socket is tight but for the yellow crap i work one, Mac and Matco are way better. Also as a side note, I have a full set of GP impacts sockets that are out lasting the snap on ones that I was given

I think their older rachets sucks. One by one I've exchanged all of mine and I've had not problem with my current Craftsman ratchets.

BTW almost everyone who makes a tool this day have a lifetime warranty. Even Harbor Frieght.....

When I worked as a mechanic (a long time ago) the s&k tool truck would come by and I collected some of their tools. Then I bought some craftsman stuff too. So 95% of my tools are craftsman and s&k. So I have a good mix of both. I cracked a craftsman socket once and brought it back and they replaced it with no questions asked so you can't go wrong with them.

Speaking of ratchets...I have one made by Allen (as in Allen wrench) that I picked up at a garage sale somewhere that I have put through a LOT of hard use and has lasted great. I never see them for sale though.

Do not try and turn in Craftsman tools for warranty while in a shop uniform, big no-no since Craftsman is not ment for professional use, more for home use only(weekend wrench turners).

The Pittsburg sockets at Harbor Freight are stronger then any MAC,Snapon,or Matco impact sockets and most tool truck drivers will agree.
