Thanx tommud & TJKJ for responses to last post. i checked all you suggested, even replaced speed sensor and wiring harness for same. Speedo still bouncing erratically when driving/maintaining constant speed manually.

i'm stumped. Thinking PCM may have issue but it's a SWAG at this point so if any further thoughts i'm always grateful. BTW, i do have scanguage and it has never given any DTC for this problem (which of course adds to my confusion).

Question :?: Thinking of salvaging PCM from scrapyard to swap out & see if any effect. Would the salvaged PCM have to be from a 5 speed or will any from an '04, 3.7L do?

i REALLY do not want to turn it over to any stealership! Had nothin' but bad experience w/them and just DO NOT want to go there so again, any thoughts are appreciated.

The PCM does not get the speedo signal 1st,the BCM does which controls the speedo.Time to rip the rear diff cover off and check the tone ring, then need to check the clearance between the sensor and the tone ring.If that's all good it's time to rip the carpet out and and start tracing the wires further up.

Thanx again TJKJ. Will check all this but have to get home first. Will i be alright driving home as is (St. Louis to Chicago) or am i risking further damage?

Feel as though i have to try as i really need to get back to work. i really appreciate the info and systematic approach to prob's. When i was trying to get the parts from the dealer today he asked what the problem was. When i described it he started spouting something about the turbine whatchyamathingy in the transmission; at which point i'm like "thanx for playin', conversation over".

I drove mine 1000 KM straight with a broken speed sensor wire with no issues other than it stalled once when coming to a stop.

That's exactly what mine did when the connection was loose. Then it finally just died altogether. You likely have a faulty connection somewhere on the speed sensor or along the wiring just above it. It is common to snag that wire when offroad. I've done it a few times.
