I'm trying to avoid trading in the Libby for a minivan by finding more storage space. May latest interest is a hitch-mounted cargo box like the Thule Terrapin. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CQ20A0 Does anybody have anything like this? I read that the low-mounted full-size KJ spare tire interferes with this box. I'm thinking of getting a hitch extension, but I still don't know if the box will swing open wide enough for the tailgate to clear it. I'm doing armchair research right now. Haven't dragged myself to the local RackAttacks.

BTW, I already have a roof bag. I'm looking for something enclosed so my cargo avoids the elements and I can just throw it in instead of having to tie down a tarp.

i use a cargo basket with a large plastic case. i like the setup b/c you can load the case in the house, then drag and drop onto the cargo basket. when the case is not on the basket, the tailgate opens freely.

I picked one up from walmart, not sure of the brand, but it was $50-$75 dollars IIRC... no interference with tire, it comes out quite a ways from the tire... PM me if you want some pictures of what it looks like.

Yeah, minivans suck. However, mid-size vans can be fun. :D

Sir Sam, What kind of Thule box do you have on your KJ? What kind of bars is it mounted on? How much cargo does it hold? I might head in the roof box direction, but I'm not looking forward to having to take it off before I pull in the garage.

Thanks,
Kev
