Gettin a little play in the front end. 128K on an '03 Rennie. Hardly offroaded. Had the LBJ mod done quite a while ago. Mounted Revos (which seem to ride harder than stock @ approx 38lbs of air) so I'm not sure if they are just not more susceptible to 'bump steer'. Anyway, I had the dlr check out the front end. They were just going to do it as part of their "23 point inspection" when they do the oil change (they're free - only reason I go to the Dlr) - I made them put it on the work order separately in case anything went wrong later on (that's why I think they actually checked it out instead of just blowing it off). They say I need "links (2 @ $62 each) & bushings (2 @ $8 each)" plus labor for a total of $288. "But they aren't that bad". Anyone know exactly what parts they mean and is this a DIY or is their price reasonable (or BS)? |

Sway bar end links (both quick disco and stock) sold here. http://jeepinbyal.com/cat-Front_Swaybar ... ts-19.aspx Did they say what was wrong with the part? Bad bushings? Doubt you need to replacing the links, if the bushings are worn you can buy them separately for $3.50/ea. Not sure how hard it is to press out the bushing and install the new one. http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-Spherical_Bushing-603.aspx |

Why would they put down a part number? The fact that they didn't specifically tell him "your swaybar endlinks are FUBAR" tells ThunderbirdJunkie volumes. Take it to a real shop. Most do free inspections. |

Ya man go to a real shop the one I go to they do a 100 point inspection free if i ask them, just part of their service, it gets any shop business cause the majority of cars have something wrong lol, but find a shop you can trust with a good reputation |

When I brought it in (have to be there by 730 Am so they can start working on it by 9AM!) I asked for the oil/filter change. They called me in to the office at 10Am (I figured it was ready) to tell me it needed plugs (It does) air filter, tuneup, etc (another $250) and the links / bushings ($288). So as soon as I "signed here" they would get started! I said, "Just do the oil, I'll make another appt for the other stuff. Dlr actually had me set an appt for 2 weeks (which I have no intention of keeping) and then I said, Ok, I'll see you in two weeks. He said, "Oh no, since we waited for you to see if you wanted the other stuff done, I'll have him do the oil and filter now."!! So they hadn't even done the oil & filter yet, which is what I brought it in for because they wanted me to get the other stuff done and were setting up that job! This "Dlr" used to have a 2nd "service only" facility. They were actually honest and did what was right. Unfortunately the dlr wasn't able to keep them running due to the economy and now you have to go to the main dealership. Total rip off. Usually, I let them tell me what is "wrong" when they do the inspection for the oil change then I take it to Strauss who I have found to actually know what they are doing and have good prices for a 2nd opinion. Strauss actually found some loose front end components after I had a "noise" for over a year when it was new. Tightened a few bolts and no more noise. During the same span of time, Jeep replaced an entire rack and 2 driveshafts under warranty thinking that was causing the noise!! My work order just says "Links and bushings". I quoted the prices of each in the first post. Do those prices line up to sway bar links and bushings? |

Wow. Doesn't sound good at all. My dealer (5 star - Brigham-Gill) is pretty diligent about their service. The owner often greets me when I pull in for service, and they work very hard to make sure I'm happy. Were they to treat me like you describe, I'd go elsewhere and make sure Chrysler knew about their behavior. |
