I spoke with Chrysler about the Window Regulator problem and finally got a straight answer.
All the regulators are bad, its a matter of luck if they stay up.
Chrysler has redone the regulator which now requires the glass to be replaced also. It is a new configuration.
Do not buy just a regulator, and do not let a Stealer sell you just a regulator. If they have make them replace it, it will probably fail.
The new configuration has been available for several months but they have been keeping it quite, in an effort to get rid of the old regulators.
The new process is a "Kit" its a regulator and glass. If you are under warranty run do not walk and get your windows fixed, even if they are not broken. Let your dealer know in writting you are aware of this problem, and give him a chance to correct it. Send your letter registered return reciept.
All the stealers should be aware of this. I went to one and he refused to sell me the old regulator alone, he said you must get the glass. Sorry I didnt write down the price but found a kit on Ebay for 124.95.
If you have problems with the regulator, and you are out of warranty let the dealer know you are prepared to take them to small claims court. Show the reciept for your old regulator and the new and you should win. We should not have to pay for a part that was defective from the start just becuase the Warranty expired.
The number of regulators that have failed far exceeds the law of averages.

You can file a complaint here
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

Everyone needs to fill out the complaint so a recall can be issued. A window falling down can cause you to become startled and have an accident.

Please tell all the Jeep owners you know having this problem.

Every city has a small claims court process. If your dealer won't cooperate send them a letter (registered return reciept) letting them know your intentions, give them 10 business days to respond then go to your local court house and file your law suit.

You've got to be kidding ThunderbirdJunkie.

Apparently YOU haven't had a regulator fail. They do not suddenly fall

Come the hell on. This is not a safety concern, it's a concern of convenience. At least you don't have a 38,000 mile Honda Odyssey that's fresh out of warranty and needing a transmission.
Man, that was a nice ticket

And who are you going to sue? Chrysler? You can't get water out of a rock. How are you going to get money from somebody with no money?

At least they were kind enough to leave the balljoint recall OPEN-ENDED. ITBJHO it should've given people a two-year window to get their LBJs replaced, and whoever was too stupid to get it taken care of deserves to have their balljoint separate.

Get the hell out of here with your self-righteous, litigious BS. This is not a problem worth suing over. OH WOW, $100 for a freakin part that may or may not fail. Lowdy lowdy, what be we doin drivin these unsafe things

Actually..

I don't agree on just this one part TBJ

I do think it's a safety issue, more so depending where you live and which window(s). Both to your passengers and your property contained within

and both of my rear windows broke suddenly and at the same time, they hadn't even made any noise....

now the front's, yea they're going to break eventually, they've been making racket for awhile

I'm buying a CRD taken very well cared for. I'm not familiar with what happens with these faliures. Is this something I can look forward to with an out of warrenty truck?

The style of regulators that chrysler used were switched over in May of 05 (IIRC). That 2nd style is prone to a large number of failures we've discovered. So if you have an 02-mid 05 you've been graced with the original style that stands up to abuse very well. They have recently updated the style again to address some of the issues with the regs breaking anytime they get shaken, not sure how that style will hold up yet.

I'm going to ask Chad if he knows when the truck was manufactured in '05.

Das, I just found out my future truck was made in June '05. I wonder where that puts it?

The ones that break if you hit a pot hole at the wrong angle. Seriously it's not that bad, but they do break fairly regularly... The failure point is a small piece of plastic where the cable ties into the cradle for the window. Snaps right there. Recently someone posted a home DIY fix for it that may work.

I keep saying the 2nd year production 2002 KJ's is the best year of the KJ,guess this is just more proof, better regulators, better tranny, and none of the 1st year run bugs.Yes the 2002 KJ was made for 18 months before the '03's.

^^^Interesting thread.

My KJ was born on 5/13/05 and I bought it new so I am the only one abusing it and so far so good......so we'll see.

ThunderbirdJunkie's never had, in any car, a window FALL. Even in the KJ, they have all crept down.

And to the falling and "startling" the driver. If you can't handle being startled while driving, stop driving now. Seriously. There are "startling" events all the time during even the most mundane commutes.

A car could be beside you and startle you. Should that cause an accident? Are you a horse in the 1920s that must share the road with these ridiculous horseless carriages, and afraid of being spooked?

Seriously.

i think safety exists beyond simple accident prevention

of course, should your regs break and prevent the opening of a particular door it could certainly prevent you from being able to exit the vehicle during certain circumstances

windows held up with tape = please take my doo doo

windows held up with tape = please yank my window down at a stop light and take my vehicle

so there's a degree of personal property and personal safety at stake in the matter

as many vehicles and miles as i've operated over the years with power windows i've had one regulator break due someone backing into my door and breaking it by crushing it

4 regs every 30-60k miles is f'ing rediculous and i'm not sure why you're defending them so stiffly TBJ

a junk part is a junk part whether its 100 bucks or free
