It is about time to change the pads and rotors for the second time (needs work every 30k in city driving) I got a quote of roughly $550 for all four rotor/pads replaced at Strauss using Bendix parts.

It's been about 2 months since their suggestion and I started feeling the need for replacement. After all, brakes are one of those you don't joke around.

Compared to parts alone at summit, labor doubles it, which is fair.

Sounds like a good price for 4 rotors and 4 sets of pads installed.Bendix is a good brand, many OEM apps use Bendix parts.

On another note, I have chiming noise from the front wheels, which recently occurred. I have no strange vibrations or clunks other than the warped rotor effects. It is like santa put a few of his tiny sleigh bells in my front wheels, chiming when I run over small bumps.

Bendix brakes are typically more expensive than other brands, but the construction is better. The main thing is picking the right type of brake pad material for how you drive. Some pads stop really well, but make noise and dust. Other is quite and dust free, but not the best choice for a heavy car that tows etc.

i recently found this on the bendix website, they do video case studies to find the best brakes for cetrain cars for how they are driven.

Hyed.....DOUBLE CHECK YOUR FIGURES.

1) you have a price on 4 front rotors. The rear are a different size than the front and have an inside braking surface for the e-brake pads. So you need 2 front and 2 rear rotors. Not 4 front rotors. The prices will be a little different.

2) then you need the e-brake shoes for the rear.

I know yours is an 04 but I was involved with an 03 and that's how they were. I am guessing the 04 is the same as the 03 to 07 disk brake setup.

By the way, they were easy to change. The hard part was getting the old ones off. Putting the new ones on is too easy.

Bendix are good brakes.

Bendix are good brakes.
Alos the OEM pads are ceramic and that adds to the cost over semi-metallic pads.

Thanks, I could not locate the rear rotors on the site.
Do you have to replace the e-brake etc when raplacing the brake components?

I am not sure about the difference between the pads but all I know is after I got my rotors refaced and pads replaced by the dealer @ 30k, they were much worse than the stock brakes. I really did not have to get that done... I believe there is still a huge difference between stock pads and the replacement ones, possibly VALUE LINE brakes or whatever chrysler calls them. It took a lot more pressure to stop and the pedal was much softer compared to before.

I am hoping it will be back to its original state-- that is if I dont end up getting a KK.

I suppose if you never use the e-brake and the pads on the little brake shoes are not worn they would not need to be replaced. I think you would have to take the rotors off to see if they need to be replaced.

I see. I can't say I never use it, but I rarely use it, mostly in the winter when I park on hills of snow which is over now since I always park in my garage. It has been a while since I used it. NYC is pretty flat :)

I guess $550 sounds pretty steep to me, but since I try to do as much of my own work as possible, I sometimes get sticker shock.

I got the appointment for the brake job.

What kind of difference in performance are we talking about between Ceramic and Semi-Metallic pads?
I don't get that much dust but one thing I definitely don't want is any kind of noise.

Also when I first had brake job done by the dealer "Value Line Brakes" it took a lot of pressure to stop the jeep compared to what it was like before...
