I stopped by the dealer today, they've got a sport 4x4, command trac, after trade of around $7k, and with incentives, it is $13,500 including Taxes.
My KJ is at 60k now and it needs about $2000 in service and fixes.

How many miles on the KK? At 13 grand it sounds like one heck of a deal unless it has a ton of miles

NO. Fix what you got.

You didn't state whether you currently have payments or not? If not, save some money by doing what needs to be done to the KJ. On the other hand, if you are currently making monthly payments, don't add to your debt. Just fix the KJ and pay off the existing loan.

But if you're going to buy another Jeep (regardless of model), wait until a dealer in your area confirms they're closing. Since Chrysler refuses to buy back inventories from dealers on the hit list, these dealers will have no choice but to sell. The thought is, they'll be forced to sell below their cost. For one reason believed by some is that the dealers remaining open can't sell what is on their own lots, so they're not likely to purchase another dealers stock. Again that's talk from the street, not expert knowledge. Of course by doing this (should it happen) you will not be able to trade-in either.

My vote: Keep the KJ.

Normally I come down on the side of go with the new... TJ traded for JK for instance. But in this instance, I don't see what you'd be gaining... I have to say stay with what you've got and fix it.

I like the KK just as much as our KJ!
But for me, at six foot five inches tall, and one daughter who at age 13 is already 5' 10" and sits behind me the driver, I'll keep our KJ because I have more leg room and she can sit more comfortably with more adequate leg room than what the KK has to offer in both front and rear seats.
Doing the repairs and servicing would be less expensive I think in the long run. And no depreciation once you drive a new vehicle off the dealers lot!
Now, if I didn't have two teenage daughters and it was just Jen and myself, it would be a tough choice!

Cheers
Ry'

Why put yourself in more debut for a vehicle with less options??? Fix the KJ. Now, if you could get a JK Unlimited 4x4 at that price, I'd go for that.....

The 13k was AFTER his trade-in.

thats a tough one, the only way i would do it is if i was upgrading say, I have the sport 4x4, stock other than power windows and doo doo. And i wanted a lockable 4x4 in high and a fancy sunroof and those nice 6 way sounds system option etc etc. If its the same options and its basically a swap KJ for KK, no way wouldnt do it

Lol, I didn't think anyone watched the classics anymore.

I personally don't like the KK's, I think (and Jeep even Says) they were built to fit the soccer moms and stable 4x4 commuters. The interiors were built more a more specific and targeted audience (extra chrome interior look, makeup mirror, dash asthmatics). Now that's not to say it's not a great rig, perhaps with a family where your not the only one driving it, I'd say it's a deal worth considering. But if you still are the driver, keep your KJ or look at the new Wrangler's, a 4door wrangler isn't something to scoff at.

There's a good interview with the head of the 2008 Jeep lineup design team, you should google search it, it's describes in detail, the differences between the 07 and 08 year models of the Cherokee, liberty, and wrangler.

Just to keep it going..... What is the Air Speed Velocity of an Unladen swallow.

I don't see much in the new Liberty/Nitro platform, and the interior felt really bad to me. Not that the KJ is much better, but I expected more from the KK.

Also, if its any reinforcement our KJ is about to roll over 140k on the 3.7 without any *major* repairs. Radiator cap, fan controller, AC compressor and that's about it.

if your going to spend 13000 on something make sure it's a JK instead of a KK... i'm sure your KJ and 13000 can score you a real nice 4dr JK..

Thanks guys, well you all know the reason I started this topic, basically to have you guys convince me not to trade my beloved KJ. Me and my wife love our jeep, I am the daily driver, she takes her out when she needs to go shopping. You all know, if I wanted to do it, I probably would have done it by now, even with my complaints of somewhat minor annoyances the KJ brought upon me during last 2 years I just could not bring myself to trade it on the spot when the salesperson offered me $7500 on my KJ today and $6000 off a brand new KK sport (Command Trac) bringing the brand new KK to slightly $12k + TAX = $13k change.

I would be losing Selec-Trac, EVIC, TPMS, My USB head unit, A/T tires with 18k on them, tinted windows, flowmaster, 1 year old radiator, 3 month old brand new battery, and my booty sweat off the driver seat in exchange for a sport KK.

Today we went to another dealer who advertised 33k snow white KK with sky slider, EVIC in dash, mygig (whatever they call it now), sat radio, navigator and bunch of bling inside. We sat in it and cranked up the volume, me and my wife fell in love with it until I noticed it had command trac and the tires were crappiest goodyears they always put on. Who would buy that for 33k!? Then I thought to myself... I bought mine for $29k.

JK? You think I didn't think of it? There was a beautiful unlimited sitting there with "freedom package" which is what dealer calls when they jack it up with bunch of accessories and put a small Freedom decal on it. It had silver tube bumpers, big tires, rims, whole 9 yards. I could probably get a JK at similar price, but it would be much worse in options/features dept..

The other vehicle I looked at was Ford Explorer, something I always liked with its performance and having driven F150 a few times, its quiet cabin. They had no deals and the ford dealer said he would offer $4k for my jeep. I said thank you and left. :)

...only 140k and you did all that?

Yikes, that means ThunderbirdJunkie has less than 10k to go before his AC compressor dies
