Post subject:  SQUEEEEEEK CREEEK

it's driving me NUTS!!!! i have a creeeeek squeeeeek creek creeek squeeeek noise coming from my right front suspension. i think it 'may' be the upper ball joint... when i even bump the steering wheel it makes the noise when the tires roll over pebbles it makes the noise.. literally EVERYTHING make it squeek and creek. anyone else have this problem? it is driving me nuts.. i like my jeep to be silent (except tires of course :)). so anyone have any input? anything i can do to stop it... is that actually the source... anyone have experience with this?

if i put my hand on the bumper and push down it does it.. and i can tell it's coming from behind the wheel... might be the shock? but i still kinda think it's one of the ball joints.. top i'd guess. i have stock arms and 21000 miles on a frankenlift.

i'm about to soak everything!!! just so that noise stops... i'll take a look at the tierod.. make sure nothing looks.. rotted or excessively rusty.

If it doesn't squeak, creek, groan or click than it's not a KJ.

If your gonna do some soaking I would use Tri-Flo instead of WD40 as it is not a silicone based lubricant unless someone has a reason not to use that one. Here is some info on it.

Tri-Flow Superior Lubricant provides twice the lubricating power of most competitive brands. Its light viscosity allows for deep penetration into hard to reach moving parts. High grade petroleum oils provide optimum lubrication under extreme temperatures (-60 to 475F) and humidity. Formulated solvents soften and remove dirt and contaminants, while special additives displace moisture and prevent rust and corrosion.

USAGE:
• Ideal for loosening rusted and
corroded nuts and bolts
• Excellent for lubricating chains
and all pivot points

RECOMMENDED CONDITIONS:
• Ideal for all conditions -
wet, dry, road and trail

interesting.. never heard of that one. i'm always iffy on using petroleum based stuff on anything with rubber.. since it eats away at the rubber... i'm a little more easy about WD-40 since it's all natural and doesnt seem to harm things i put it on.

Just keep in mind that WD 40 was designed as a Moisture repelant it is not a long term lubricant.

Have you jacked it up yet to check everything , upper/ lower ball joints, bearings ??

nope... how do you check for balljoints.. jack it up so the tire off the ground grab it and see if it tilts in/out?

on your Jeep

and KJs in particular

Jack it up by the LCA

push in at the top of the wheel

and use a 2x4 or something else long to pry the tire upward.

First test, for uppers, 2nd test, for lowers.

have a buddy grab your balljoint. then cough...deep cough. Finish by drinking many beers to forget said balljoint checking....

there are how to articles in the tech section.

I redid my front end a few months ago which resulted in a squeek and a rattle. The rattle or clacking turned out to be the top nut on the strut assembly not tightened all the way. The squeek was the new springs rubbing on the internal spacers and once everything settled it went away, but it made the noise when driving on almost every surface. so maybe it is one of your suspension components.

eak. I am both glad to be on this board and a bit afraid at times, lol. I have a nice click noise in my front drivers side. Usually happens after I change directions...meaning, after I pull into the garage I back up and hear it. When I get to the street and throw it in drive I hear it as I pull forward and same goes for when I am at work. I have grown accustomed to it so I do not hear it anymore but now I might have to check that out too when I am swapping out the rotors this weekend.
FUN FUN.

Have the CREEEEEK from hell here too. Narrowed mine down to the sway bar bushings. They are fairly new bushings and thought it would go away. 8K later... and a little silicon spray. hahahaha even worse!!!! So why no petroleum based stuff? I was thinking a little Vaseline or something of the sort. Is this not a good idea?

after a couple days mine has decreased quite a bit.. and it has come and gone before. putting 'oil' on rubber wears it down/weakens it it over time.
