I have an '05 CRD, and in the fuse panel on the driver's side of the dash there is a slot for a relay that isn't there, and the slot is marked "daytime running lights." This would be a nice option to have up here in the PNW. But I doubt it is as simple as just finding a relay and plugging it in. I'll look into that, but in the meantime I'm wondering how Jeep does their DRL's. I have been tempted on my wife's vehicle and on my Unimog to rig up a relay that basically wires the low beams in series if the parking lights are on but the headlights aren't. I don't know how dim they'd be, but this way I'd save some life span on the filaments. Does anyone with a Liberty have DRL's? If so, how do they operate? Are they a separate bulb, or what? Happy Holidays! |

Hi George. Nice to see you on the forum and a new fellow KJ owner. I've been dreaming of a Unimog for YEARS! And I've been listening to the North by Northwest tales for a few years now. 2000 wasn't it? The Grog is looking great in the 4X4 wire picts, but you need to replace that one pict and let the Grog tower over the new KJ!! No daytime running lights here in VA. Traded in a Jetta for the CRD KJ, so I'm enjoying a momentary respite from DRLs (couldn't turn 'em off in the Jetta). It'll be nice if you could just plug a relay in and have them running. Haven't looked into that. What about putting a couple cheap driving lights on the front and wiring them into your parking lights? Wouldn't have to worry about using up headlight filaments. BTW I absolutely LOVE how you labeled the Grog tank with "Biodiesel." What blend are you running up there in the PNW? |

Yep, 2000 was the first fiasco...er, trip. There have been a couple others since then, but they're not published yet. Up here, being a temperate climate, good B100 can be run year round, but this time of year temperatures are iffy enough that I prefer running a blend...usually at least 60-75% Biodiesel. The key is getting or making GOOD biodiesel and knowing what its gel point is. If nobody else has the DRL answer, I'll look into what the relay socket is hooked up to and let everyone know. I suspect I'll have to do that anyway. Good suggestion about the other lights, and worth considering. Just not as "clean" looking. (I know...looking at Grog you'd wonder why that would even be a consideration.) Best, |

It's actually quite simple to add DRLs to a US KJ. You need to have your dealer order the DRL relay (regular relays won't work,) put that in and pull out the highbeams relay. Then have your dealer change the country code in your BCM to Canada. Viola, daytime running lights! |

FreedomKJ is on point and DRLs are discussed a bit in the 06 Factory Service Manual that you can download at http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/ PN appears to be 56042216AB or STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # RY457. Online cost appears to be about $20 except for the insane reseller on Amazon that wants ca. $450 |
