I really like mine so far and think it may be my best mod that i have done. It gets me unstuck it and gives me more confidence to try new things.

I guess I'll be the odd ball... I had one on my 86 CJ for 9 months and never used it once. It was always quicker to just hook a strap to another vehicle. It all depends on the kind of wheeling you do I guess and how many people go with you.

For wheeling in my area I don't feel the need for one and probably won't buy one again.

There are times though when i would rather have a slow controlled pull out of a situation than to be jerked out by a strap.

The winch has many different uses. For instance it's also useful for clearing trees. I used it to clear a big tree that had fallen across the trail once. Another time i used it to pull someone's car out of the ditch.

Most times I use the strap but there are those occasions that a strap is not feasible like pulling a fellow KJ up a very steep and very loose hill and he is 75'+ from the top and the top of the climb is a hard right turn,a winch comes in very handy there where a strap just will not work.

I've only had the need to use it once to pull an FJ out of a mudpit. Priceless! Had a strap with me too but there wasn't room to use it.
