Ok. so I've finally got around to buying a fire extinguisher. Now; where the heck am I going to mount it? It would be good if I can have access from the driver's seat (Why? I don't know) Where has everyone mounted theirs? And How did you mount it? eg self tapping screws etc |

Under the front passenger's seat (assuming you don't have powered/heated seats) in a quick-release mount secured to the inside seat mount posts (how you do this is up to you; mine is secured with zip-ties). That way you can reach under the seat with your right hand, pop the release, and haul out the extinguisher right from the driver's seat. |

No, The quick-release mount is secured to the posts with zip ties. The fire extinguisher is held in place by the quick-release... |

Honestly, I carry one in case I start a fire while Im camping, if the KJ goes up I would probably let it burn. Not too many car fires have been put out by a 20 dollar fire ext. |

How much ambient heat can an extinguisher take without leaking or otherwise becoming inoperative or dangerous? The last two days the thermometer in my Liberty got to 141 degrees... |

under a seat or below a tinted window the ambient heat is different than in the headliner typical max storage temp is 120 degrees, places like under the seat and what not stay much cooler hottest day i checked mine out of curiosity , it was about 133 in the jeep, my infrared laser thermometer said the fire extinguisher was just over 88 degrees, my mountain dew in the console said 119 though haha |

Good thought; we have one of those IR thermometers; I can check the different areas. Would it be safe to have a Halon extinguisher in such surroundings? |

not sure if it was on this forum or jeepkj the other day, but the guy was down at OBX and his brother's Grand Cherokee got water in the tranny which busted some seals and spewed some fluid on the engine manifold and it ignited. he managed to put the fire out with his KJ's fire extinguisher before it didnt any fire damage. I think thats a pretty good reason to have a fire extinguisher in my KJ. |

Same as Cobalt. I have a 2kg Halon and I have found (just practising) that I can rip it out and ready to go in a couple of seconds from the drivers seat. |

If it was my vehicle I would let it burn. I love it very much but, in the end, I love getting a new ride. I would carry it for camping, or for the other guy who has a car on fire. My only worry is tempurature, your vehicle temp can reach above 50 degrees easily (Celsius) and where I live we can get below -30, so will it survive those temps? |

this is a mod everyone should have done! I used mine last night, we we're working on my friends bronco cutting off some suspension brackets with an oxy-acetylene torch and My buddy hit a fuel line and the whole truck burst into flames! 2 fire extinguishers and about 300 gallons of water later and It was out. Oh did i mention that it was in the GARAGE? |

mine fits snugly between my driver seat and the door sill i have to open the door to get it out but it seems that mounting them behind the driver or in the back run into the same problem. |
