Post subject:  @!!$*! Lug Nuts

Just rotated my tires for the 1st time since they were new. The garage must have had their impact wrench set on max. I couldn't break them loose with the supplied lug wrench or a 4-way. Put a piece of pipe on the 4-way and was actually twisting the metal on it. Aso twisted the metal enough on stock lug wrench that paint peeled off. So... the tip of the day is if you haven't removed your lugs since shop installed tires, you'd better try it at home and break them loose rather than waiting till you're stranded with a flat somewhere. I had to get a breaker bar with a 2 foot piece of pipe to break mine loose and then tightened them with regular pressure so I can remove in an emergency.
This goes for all vehicles...Tip of the day!

I'm planning on avoiding anyone putting on or taking off tires from mine. Really easy to rotate them at home since I'm rotating in the spare. I use a torque wrench to tighten mine too.

I may even start requesting proper torque when I do go to the shop, in event they need to take off the wheels. I just bought some black chrome McGard lugnuts and they are too expensive to ruin.

It has always been standing tradition at our house to have 2 different sets of tires. I will now let them touch my vehicle. I have seen to many cars jacked up by tire places

Suppose to be torque sticked to ~50ft lbs then dropped and hand torqued at a shop

hehe I have had the same problem. I have actually broken off 8 of the 10 rear lugs. Each freaking one was cross threaded by the shop. I am now nearly a pro at swapping out studs, lol.

Had a shop do this once on another vehicle of mine once. Was cranking the wrench with my whole body and a cheater bar. Right about then it stripped off of the lug nuts and I drilled my face off the side of the fender.

Pretty easy to do on a spare tire mount? I have one that's stripped - Discount tire did it when they took my locking lugs off for me... though they said they'd reimburse if I took it somewhere to have it repaired, I'd almost rather do it myself. :?

I lost the cap on one of mine in Albany and did not notice it till I got home (I KNEW I should have stopped at Summit Racing in McDonough on my way back and bought the solid lugs I want!!!!) and need to do the spare tire swap myself... :?

Hahaha, did you get that on camera?

Personally no one has ever taken my tires off except for me. Ive never had problems with stripped, cross threaded, or caps popping off the stock lugs(got solid lugs now). :)
