Hi,

I have a 05 sport and I just noticed the following behavior.

1) Run Engine, Lights on -> Turn Headlights off->Remove keys : the lights are off as expected

2) Run Engine->Turn off & Remove key -> Chime sounds -> Turn off headlights -> Sound stops but headlights remain on even after I get out and lock the doors (all other lights are off). If I put the key back in, turn the lights on and off, the lights turn off

Is (2) a feature or a bug? Sounds like a visit to the dealer is in order?

thanks for any advise

it's a feature. They should go off either after 30 or 60 seconds, depending on what they are set at. You can view the menu on the evic to see what it's set at.

Feature. Anytime you turn off the KJ with the lights on they will stay on for the delay. Provides light while you walk to the house or through the garage.

Yeah "feature". Annoying at first, but you'll get used to it.

Yep, it's designed that way.. turn the lights off before you turn off the engine if ya don't want them to stay on.. mine stay on for about a minute.. don't have an EVIC so I'm not sure what the actual delay is.

I see, thanks, saved the trip to the dealer!
I waited for about a minute to see if they'll go off but they didn't. Will
check tomorrow to see how long it takes

thanks for the replies

yeah, on my 04 they go off after 30-45 seconds if I turn the switch off after turning the ignition power off. However if you leave the light switch on, it will turn the lights off after 10 minutes. Another feature, so you don't run your batteries down by accident.

One other method I use after the engine is off is to turn the lights off, then on again, then off. The last time they stay off and it only takes a second.

I just turn the lights off before I pull the key out
BTW my 05 stays lit up for 2 minutes if I don't turn them off first... Need a stink'n EVIC from 04 or newer!

I have two 05' Libbies, 1 light khaki (mine) and 1 dark khaki (hers.)
My lamps run almost 8 minutes after key off, and hers run about 5
after key off. Pretty screwy, huh? I told the guy at the
stealership this information, and he told me it was normal
for the lamps to stay illuminated for "5-8"minutes.
What a butthead.....

It's a feature, and when you forget and turn the car off before you turn the light off, you just have to turn the light on, then off again, and it'll be off immediately.

There are three ways to turn lights off:

(1) light on -> light off first, then engine off
(2) light on -> engine off, light off and wait for light to go off
(3) light on -> engine off, light off (normally this is when you wait), light on, then light off

Got it?
