Post subject:  rear tri-link bracket

so after i installed my Al's 4.5 arms last week, i need to get an alignment, but the shop(VERY trustworthy shop, family owned, ONLY shop i trust with my JEEP, honest as can be) wont align it because my front wheel bearings are bad, and my rear tri-link passenger bushing is totally shot. which they are correct, because i knew about the wheelbearings having some play, nothing bad, but enough to be noticable, and the bushing, when i pry on it with the prybar, it moves around up and down a lot

1st question is, has anybody replaced those bushings on the rear tri-link?

2nd question is, would installing AL's rear tri-link balljoint extension relieve the pressure on those tri-link bushings, and correct the angle, and be ok to use on my jeep? i got about 3" of lift out of it. Or is that bracket only for 4" and up lifts?

it would be AWESOME if JeepinbyAL made a tri-link rear arm similar to his AL's front upper control arms. making is so the balljoint angle AND bushing angle is corrected(i remember seeing a thread here about someone making drawings)

The upper tri-link shouldn't matter, because you can't align the rear.

But you align the front to the rear, so if the rear is not at least solidly in place...then there's no point;)

Ray, here's a link to bushing and balljoint replacement on the rear trilink. I was just searching it because my trilink/balljoint is gone too and I saw your post.

It doen't look too hard except for you really need a press. he did it with a bottle jack but it didn't look too safe.
I haven't looked up part #'s or prices yet, Maybe someone else has these #'s for us ( oops, meant you, not hijacking :D )hope their not too much. IIRC the whole trilink arm was less than 300 so the ball joint and bushings should only run 1/2 that I would think. Could be wrong tho' :D

Over on your side of the pond they sell the special tool to press the rear balljoint / bushings in for a good price. Can't remember where exactly but someone will chime in.

Looks like this:

pretty good prices on parts, about 180 for the whole rear tri link shipped ball joints are cheap but this way it would be new and Chris could paint it!

250  man red paint is expensive and your labor must be high as well, but then I could mount it, the other red thing hanging near my work bench and also the new ....well some other new parts at the same time

Take the trilink off, buy the bushings and take it to your trust worthy mechanic, he should have the press to punch them in and out. Doing it with a ball joint press as the one in the previous picture could prove to be in effective :D

my buddy has a press in his garage. i was just wondering if anybody else has had these bushings go bad on them?

i still think it would be a great idea for JeepinbyAl to make a custom tube rear tri-link similar in design to his front upper a-arms, with the plate and the notches in the round tube and all :)

I'll add this to the list of things I should fix but probably never will.

That and severe oil change intervals  ,just don't complain when you have a major breakdown that could have been prevented by proper maintenance.

Replacing mine at the moment, I made a press myself using a 4.5 tonne hydralic jack and some metal brakets, it pushed out the old bushes in seconds. I just have to make a jig to press in the new bushes, without damaging the rubber. It will also press in the new upper ball joint I got form Morris 4x4. I'll install this tri-link (as it is a spare one I had) with new bushes and balljoint at the same time install my new lower rear control arms I got as complete units from Morris as well. Should fix all the bangs I have in my rear end.....

I think i have suggested that somebody make a new rear tri-link before. I was trying to get somebody down here in Oz to make one, but, nobody wants to because of legality issues. So still waiting for one of you boffins to come up with something.
