Post subject:  Front passenger CV question

I'm replacing my front passenger CV driveshaft and I'd like to know whether it's important to install those small c-clips back on the stub shaft or whether they can be safely left off. If I need to put them back on, does anyone have a part number for them and a location where I can pick up two new ones?

Those c-clips are very important, they hold the CV in the diff.Dealer part only and there is a left and right specific ones. There about $5 each.

The passenger side c-clip part # is 05066064AA

I was afraid of that. Hopefully it's a commonly stocked dealer item. Does that part number cover both the inner and outer clip?

Properly not a stocked item, that part # is just for the intermediate shaft(both ends) for the passenger side CV.

is your cv wobbly where it slides onto the intermediate shaft?

i replaced my passenger side CV and there was still tons of play where it slides onto the intermediate shaft, because the intermediate shaft splines were worn, probably along with the clips. so now i have to take it apart again and replace that shaft. i should have the shaft tomorrow, and im doing the wheel bearings at the same time because they are shot as well

Well, when I pulled the CV driveshaft out the intermediate shaft came with it. Let me tell you, that was fun to separate those. Had to heat up the CV with a torch and then pound on the CV with a 5lb sledge to dislodge the intermediate shaft. The clips got bent a little when both ends of the intermediate shaft so I was hoping I could just remove them and go without them. That's not the case so I'm going to head over to the dealership tomorrow to see about picking up some clips. I hope to heck they have some in Columbus as the KJ has been down a full week now as I've waited for parts to come in...and these aren't even fun parts.

Back story: There was a ticking noise coming from the passenger front of the KJ and the tick would increase as the speed of the KJ increased. So I pulled the CV driveshaft and got one ordered. The one I ordered from Napa was a reman and it had a tiny hole in the boot. So that went back and I'm waiting for another reman to show up (it'll be here on Tuesday). While working on the passenger side I also noticed that the upper ball joint boot was practically shredded at the bottom. So I dropped a new control arm on there (thank heavens I saved mine from my old KJ). On the plus side, while waiting for parts I was able to obtain and install an EVIC and ambient temp sensor.

i think my actual cv is fine, but the splines on the cv and intermediate shaft both worn together, so i doubt i could put the old cv back on with the new intermediate shaft

Resurrecting this thread for a quick minute...

Anyone know if the c-clips can be ordered anywhere online? Did a quick google search of the part number and couldn't find an outlet for them. Or do I actually have to go to the dealer to find it?

PN: 05066064AA

Thanks!
