| Post subject: | P0300 - 306 Saga FIXED!!!!!!!! no help from dealer |
OK: Took it into the dealer. They said 2 coil packs were shot. -REPLACED. 2 days later CEL flash again KJ runs like crap. Code shows P0300 - 306 I decided to replace the other 4 coil packs and reset PCM. 2 days later CEL flash again. I had enough. I brought it back to the dealer last night. 2 hours ago they said they can not figure out the problem. Everything checked out fine. I asked about the possiability of the PCM, they daid MAYBE. They did mention that I was 4 wheeling thoe. They said they found some dry mud in my skid plate and what looks like a splash residew in the engin bay. (WELL NY WE BEEN HAVING FLOODS and my road was FLOODED!) ANY WAY------they seem not to be able to do anything more. My problem basicaly happens on a DECEL coming down a hill when I let off the gas for a moment then step on the gas to maintain speed....... WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?????????? |

So what if you were 4 wheelin, isn't that what you bought a 4wd for? What are they going to tell someone with a Vette, looks like you have been speeding? Dealers |

have you ever looked into the camshaft position sensor. MY Kj ran like crap when that went bad. It would stall too. But I got a code for that along with some misfire codes. Happened about a week or two after wheeling in a lot of water. Another thing to look into may be the wiring for the coil packs and the spark plugs. have you replaced the plugs lately? Are they gapped correctly? |

I have replaced the plugs, they are gaped correctly. this problen first started over the winter. I replaced the plugs and all was well untill about a month ago. I checked all coil wires, coil packs (NOW ALL NEW), I have not been wheeling since 1st week in april. Compression test, this test, that test. I even did a caught test So I have no freaking clue any more. The dealer is stumped, I am stumped. |

Its pretty cheap too if you do it yourself. $20 part I think...no special tools and is easily accessible on the engine block. worth a shot if you're having that much trouble |

Just sayin'. But just typing that it could be a oil pressure problem if it is not a PCM problem. If the oil pressure is not high enough on deceleration to keep the timing chain tensioners pumped up properly it could cause a random misfire but only on decel. The 2 timing chain tensioners are only plastic but should outlast the chains in 99% of the 3.7's out there. |

Have you checked the following? -Worn serpentine belt -Binding Engine-driven Accesories : A/C Compressor, P/S pump, Water Pump -Misalignment on the Water Pump, P/S pump and A/C Compressor Pulleys -Corroded PCM power and ground circuits - Improper CKP, CMP, MAP and TP sensor mounting -Poor connector/terminal to component connection. ie CKP sensor, Fuel Injector, Ignition coil etc -Vacuum leaks -Restricted Air Induction system or Exhaust system |

The dealer checked all the pulley's and s-belt along with time chain. All seems to be ok. Seems how this problem happens on a decel, I should look to the oil pump? I have 140100 on motor right now. NEVER changed anything except AC compressor. (Problem happend before compressor burned out) |

Well after this weeneds rain cleared late this afternoon. I decided to change my plugs and replaced all coil packs (brought back to auto zone and got replacement warrante) My old plugs had 25K CHAMPS and the wear looked like a GREAT WEAR. something that you would like to see. So I gaped .040 on factory req's NGK and while I was in the engin I decided to clean throd body and inspected all circuts/connections. I did find my MAP sensor had one loose screw. I adjusted that and I hope mybe that was my problem. We will see. I will let you know in 200 miles. (Seems to happen at the 1st 200 mile mark after PCM reset) |

Sounds like you may have found the problem!! Loose MAP sensor. Also if you have been experiencing heavy rainfall/flooding you may want to give all your connectors a blast with a water-dispersing agent and a coating of De-oxit. |

The way things are going, I am sure either that was not it or it is going to get worse. I seriously have had it with this dam Jeep. Dealer can't tell me what is wrong except tell me my problem is from 4 wheeling. They said that because I had some dry mud in my skid plate. So they point the finger to that but not finding the problem |

Typical Dealer response. Sounds like they are wiping there hands of it. Take it to a mechanic who specialises in jeep. Not a dealership. If its not completely standard, they are completely confused and at most times, all they are capable of is the basic servicing requirements. I had a dealership install my lift, It took them 3 day's and didn't know what bumpstops were because they looked different to what came out of the factory!! Although in the back of my mind I was having a bit of a giggle because my KJ occupied a hoist for 3 days and I could slowly see the backlog of vehicles mounting up. I think the manager was glad to see me leave. He was happy that I helped the boy's through a learning curve, though. He said that they, now know what to do next time someone wants a lift install. |

Brian, I hope this misfire is finally done. I wish we could have sorted it out between both of us and the FSM and code reader and swapping stuff around. I don't know what elce to say or do....... except now with new plugs and coil packs I got my fingers crossed. That said, call my cell if you need anything I can possibly help with. |

4 Weeks later and it still has not showen an P03xx code yet. Looks like I got it. I ended up replacing the rest of the coil packs and plugs. The dealer INSIST that my problem was caused by 4wheeling and blamed mud splash on the engin bay. I should have used soap to fix the KJ then. |
