Post subject:  power windows and horn not working

We had a torrential downpour and after it was over, my power windows, sunroof and horn stopped working. I checked the fuse and it was ok but I discovered that the fusebox was wet. It wasnt soaked but there was water in there. That happened on Friday and it is still not working today. Can I just wait for it to dry out or do you think I am going to have to replace something?

I'd dry it, but it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the batter to stop any current from further shorting any systems out. If there's water in the fuse box you can get the vehicle aerosol air cans and blow it out as best you can, then just let it dry. *WARNING* do not use the air with the battery connected, if any of the NO2 or any of the excess water travels it could dammage other systems.

The drying out process hasn't fixed anything so back to my original question... Does anybody have any idea what I am going to have to replace to get my horn and windows working again?

I would say next step is to check each of the fuses to the connected systems and check for shorted or burn wires to / from each

So I did some exploration in the fusebox today and found a blown fuse. The problem is that the fusebox diagram in my owners manual, is definitely not what the fusebox in my jeep is like. Has anybody else noticed the discrepency?

Are you talking about the fuseblock in the driver side of the dash?

Yes sir. for example, the book says that fuse #3 should be a blue 15 amp and is for the horn. In the jeep #3 is a yellow 20 amp. My #1 fuse is a blue 15 amp and that is the one I found blown and after replacing it, my windows and horn began working again.

Yes, that is a known issue with some owners manuals. Here is some pics of the correct diagram. I printed them out and keep them in my Jeep.

If the windows are working correctly but the horn sounds like poo then something may be wrong with the horn causing the fuse to blow.

I haven't looked at the schematics for the Liberty but could it be possible that there's corrosion within a plug coming from the fuseblock? Maybe through the firewall?

If I can find my FSM I'll look at the schematics and see if I can find an answer. It is curious that your windows, horn & sunroof have failed.

it may be that something is wrong with the horn now but it was all definitley caused by the water in the fuse box from the rain because all was fine till we had the deluge. so maybe the short in the box damaged the horn.
