For the engine, I've heard Simple Green and a hose work well. Maybe a brush also... For the hood pad, get a regular screw driver, and gently pry off the clips that hold it..... |

for mud - you need water - lots of it - a brush will help - and watch out for electronics and vent lines the simple green is more for grease/oil |

The first thing to do it get ride of the stupid muddy water holding hood liner. You don't need it anyway. I always pressure wash my engine bay and never had a problem with things getting wet. Maybe it's my Irish luck though! Terry |

I have had my engine totally plastered with mud a few times. Even the hoodliner was all splattered. I stuff a towel in the intake and wet it down really really good with a garden hose. I didn't take the hoodliner off but used a brush on it. The problem with that was it held water like a sponge and continued to run down to the lowest point ....the firewall end. I usually ended up washing it down several times to get all the mud off. I did use simple green on it but after I got the majority of the mud off. Then rinsed again and blotted up the water in the nooks and crannies and then wiped it down. It always starts right up afterwards and I take it for a ride. I have done it this way several times with no drama. However the next time I think I will take the hoodliner off. That's what I did anyway. |

If you do a search of the forums you'll find a few postings about cleaning the engine compartment. The biggest hint I've read is that you don't want to use a pressure washer. It will cut up the hood insulation and shoot water into places it shouldn't be. If you happen to do a lot of muddy water crossings don't forget to wash out the radiator too. It will affect the cooling capability. |

I'm with Fulltimer,I just use the pressure washer at the self serve car wash on my engine,I just avoid the air cleaner(I have a cone filter) and that's it and never had a issue.Though I use the soap mode which is hot water at the carwash I use,I never spray a hot engine with cold water. |

I've had good luck with spraying a foaming wheel cleaning solution, then after 5-10 minutes rinsing off with a hose. Protect the air cleaner and the don't spray a hot engine is of course correct. |
