Leaking oil pan

OK! I installed OEM skid plate for front suspension and transmission.

Went off-roading and by pure luck, came down on a rock and dented the oil pan right next to the drain plug. I now have an oil leak.

Is it hard to change the oil pan, or is it best left to a mechanic? I have searched the forums and can't find a thread that tells how to change it.
If it's too much of a problem, I can live with the leak for now.

The engine has to be pulled in order to remove/replace the oil pan.

you may want to Clean up the Pan real well.
Make it clean enough to eat off of.

Then add JB wled to the crack or leak.
To help seal it up.

Make sure you don't get any JB Weld on the drainplug, unless you have a Fumoto valve on it. Never being able to get the drainplug off again would seriously cramp your style. . .

It,s too close too the plug to try that. It loooks like it deformed right around the plug.

man that sucks. if all else fails, could you seal the entire oil plug with jb weld, then tap a new one to the side somehow??? just a thought.

That first step is a doozy. Gets easier after that:

NOTE: Do not pry on oil pan or oil pan gasket. Gasket is integral to engine windage tray and does not come out with oil pan.

So how did the rock get you? Did it just poke through the oil-change access hole in the skid? Or did it crush the skid up into the pan?

Is the plug itself or the threads in the drain hole damaged? If not, couldn't you just take the plug out, drain the oil and fix the crack with the plug out? Then replace the plug once the JB weld is set?

This may be an easy fix.

Order a Fumoto valve. (Link below, yours would be the F-106 if you have the 3.7L) When it comes in, remove the stock drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Fix the crack with JB Weld and install the valve (it just screws into the stock drain plug opening) and allow it to set overnight. Refill the engine with oil, and rock and roll.

The only things to watch would be how the JB Weld would interact with the brass of the valve or with the rubber gasket on the valve if it would actually be touching it.

It seems to be right in the thread area. So close to the threads that you really can't see where it's at. It was on a lift at Big "O" tires, and I didn't have my camera, so no pics yet. I am installing a Transfer skid this next week, and I will try to get pics when I have it jacked up.

Also the leak seems to be dripping less, so I hope the hole is plugging itself.

I am also thinking of putting a shield over the drain hole. 2 drilled holes, 2 bolts 1 w/wingnut, and a piece of 1/4" metal. Has anyone done this?

I'm like, totally confrused about this. I was going through my service manual and it had a section which specifically talked about what can be done without engine removal. The oil pan was very clearly listed as something that could be removed without engine removal. I'll try to quote the relevant section tonight.

Either remove the engine or support the engine and drop the cradle are the only 2 ways to remove the oil pan in a KJ that still has IFS front suspension.

I tried Seal-all, but I didn't have it raised up high enough to do a good job. Will have to try again when I have time.
For now, I am putting up with it.

Has anyone had any expierence with Bars Leak Rear Seal oil? I also discovered a front seal leak, and wondered if this would help.
