Hitch mounted cargo

Is the fold up accessory able to be used on our kjs, because I am thinking that the spare tire is in the way!

yea, you'll be NOT folding that up

but ive seen plenty like that used in the down position

would make a heck of a grill guard in the up position if put on a front hitch

actually i saw a guy at the beach who had already unloaded his stuff, and had strapped the basket against the tire which seemed kinda stupid

If it's a problem, they make hitch receiver extensions that will move the rack out far enough to fold up and miss the tire.

You know that thought actually never crossed my mind, you could even add a bungee cord around it to the tire while going down the highway just for added support (and to stop rattling while in the up position.) Now I'm intrigued...I wonder if you could even hook up one of those riser extensions so they don't come so close to the ground.

You CAN fold them up with some hitches. My hitch is longer and has no problem clearing the tire. They are made that way...jeep specific, cause there's a rear-mount spare.

how sturdy is it when your driving, i know its in the receiver, but would you think it shakes because it folds?

I just made my own to use while i was hunting i built it heavy enough so You can pull somebody out with it
it works great just a little heavy. I used 3"channel for the edges with expanded metal bottom and I welded 2 harrow chain links on each side for tie downs. O Yeah mine doesnt fold

I made my own also using a piece of 1/4" walled 2" tube,angle, expanded metal. Mine doesn't fold, but it does have a 2" ball on the end I can pull a small trailer with. You can buy the extensions for reasonable, probably in 12 or 18" lengths, they will hold any cargo the tray can hold. Mine is heavy enough, it does no bouncing around when empty. ( or you can slide a thin piece of shim in between hitch and tube to reduce rattle)
