Feel dumb asking, but since I'm 70 miles from home, all my tools, and garage, I need a lil help diagnosing (the obvious most likely). Don't have a floor jack and the supplied jack is worthless getting my wheel up since I'm running larger tires.

I got inspected at the end of July, My rear brakes were at the very line of passing inspection, so I went ahead and just replaced them. Fronts where fine.

Since then I've put around 1,200 miles on the Jeep..and as of Tues when I got in from 350mile trip my brakes are sounding redic, grinding when I step on them...and I'm hearing a lil bit of catching at low speeds.

All the rotors look fine...the right rear has about a 1/4 inch 'ring' on the very outside which resembles rust. They also have never smelled at all either.

Did I fall victim to a sticky caliper?

I just want to be able to make it back to home home tomo afternoon so I can replace whatevers wrong myself - and not dish out $ to a shop over here.

Thanks.

Do you still have a lot of 'pedal'? If so, I would think you should be okay to make it home. MY rear rotors are rusted, too. I thought my calipers may be frozen open, so I replaced both, but now, I'm having trouble bleeding them. My pedal is going almost all the way down, before I have any real brake, and I'm worried I may have a bad master cylinder, instead. IF you are still stopping okay, then take it easy, leave yourself extra distance, and worry about it back home. But, CHECK YOUR BRAKE FLUID!!!

Good Luck! :)

Yeah, I've still got alot of pedal. I'll take it easy on the way home (WV back roads). Still tho - no smell after th 340 mile drive...thats assuming my brand new pads didn't die on me.

So.................did you make it home OK? And have you found anything out about your brakes? I finally got MY brake issue resolved, hopefully yours is just as simple: I took it to the stealership (I got desperate, since bleeding the brakes wasn't helping), and found..............I put the brake hoses on UPSIDE down!
There must be an offset at the connection point.

(Hopefully, your problem will be as easy to solve)
