Post subject:  Electrical Problems

So I did some underwater stuff today, but nothing I haven't already done. Then, I came down on my rear bumper and bent the plug for the receiver hitched pretty well. After that, my reverse lights came on, low powered. When I went into reverse, they came on high powered.

Anyway, next, the reverse light went away (after about 1hour) and my passenger rear marker light and front marker light would stay on). Then after about an hour of that, My lights come on, but my passenger markers (front and back) and backlighting for instrumentation and heater/fan/etc panel lighting do not work. It stayed that way for the rest of the night. So basically, I have to passenger front or back running marker (brake lights work fine, turn signals work fine, etc), and the back lighting for the speed/tac-omters, air system, etc. don't seem to work either.

Anyone have ideas on where to start? Some folks said it might just be a short due to the water and would dry up and fix itself.

Thanks -- this is, of course, on a 2004 KJ.

When you say you bent the plug for the receiver hitch do you mean the electrical connection? If so you probbably shorted something inside the plug or sheared the wires under the truck and they are shorting out. The other possigility is a bad ground this can cause backfeeding and the symptoms you described, like the dim reverse lights.

Yep the electrical connection in the back (sorry it was late last night). So, someone else mentioned it might be a fuse problem too for the inside panel lights. Guess I should track down my manual today and look at what fuses those are to see if they're blown.

Ill tell you that all the fuses are in the wrong spot. When it tells me a fuse is in one spot, its not. So you must figure all that out on your own. I would unhook the hitch wiring and go from there. Not very hard, i do it all the time.
