Post subject:  Indiana or Ohio Hitch Owners?

Sorry this isn't in the regional forum, but I figured this was my best shot at finding help.

I'm looking to measure a handful of different types of hitches. If there is anyone in Indiana or western ohio that could let me crawl under their Jeep and measure their hitch for 15 minutes, I'd appreciate it. I was supposed to do it this weekend and had 2 many distractions.

Or even someone more remote that was geometrically inclined to fill in the blanks on a sketch for me. You'd probably need a protractor of some sort, a tape measure, machinists squares would probably help. I basically need to reverse engineer the hitches, documenting the geometry of their mount plates/angles, crossbar (with bends), etc.

Please send PM's if you can lend me a hand in one way or the other.

Was hoping to check out a mopar, hidden hitch, reese, uhaul, anything like that. (or all of them). I've been calling around and nobody stocks anything....or wants to order one just so I can look at it for 20 minutes

i have a uhaul and its been ok so far. they havea $5 lifetime warranty its really good actually. and for another $10 u can get the wiring insured in case an animal eats it. they cover pretty much anything.

I will be picking up a brand new mopar this week from the dealer. PM me a list of the measurements before and after installation and I will do my best to get you what you need.

Well, I found a dealer that had one...ordered it to put on someones jeep tomorrow morning. I had to drive an hour to measure it for 20 minutes. I called about a dozen places around here, and found that one via a dealers network.

I now have the dimensions of the mopar, but I'd still like to check some of the others.

Actually, since I measured the mopar today, I have a rough model nearly ready for making drawings. I'm going to try to have my prototype aluminum skid ready by that day. I would love to spend my day installing and uninstalling it with your different configurations. Another thing I need to check out is model year differences / tank sizes.

a lot of us at the IL lift part will have 02-04's, and I think I am the only 1 with/out a skid on the gas tank

Perfect, I have an 05 and want to check it vs the smaller tanks. I can drop skids and put them back together. We'll see what models / hitches are there and play it by ear.

The factory hitch isn't priced too bad. Some places even discount them. Check JPARTS http://jparts.com/product_info.php?cPat ... b425608965 $166
