| Post subject: | Help tow fan stuck. |
I am lost for what happened. I was towing my boat into town the other day and then after unhooking and driving it still sounded loud. I believe the sound I am hearing is my towing fan sounds like it is stuck on. I gave it some throttle when I was looking under the hood and that seems to be where the most noise is coming from. What would cause this? Could it be my A/C clutch or some other clutch in the belts. I did have my tension pulley replaced in 2007 but this just started yesterday. Am I going to cause any problems if I keep driving the way it is? |

There is a viscous clutch on the mechanical fan. If that has failed - the fan will be 100% on all the time and the fan speed will vary with the RPM of the engine. Sounds like you need to replace the fan clutch. The only problem that you could encounter will be overspeeding the plastic fan blades. I do not know the rating for the fan either so I can't tell you when the blades might start cracking. |
