Your talking about the metal piece that carries the vertical weight. I think its only needed when you bolt or weld it to a bumper. If your going to strap the jerry can down to your roof rack, I wouldn't bother. The only fuel can mount I would pay for is one that allows you to lock the can in place so it can't be swiped. |

You can see how I mounted mine better than I can describe it. I mounted this while the rack was on the Jeep. Now that the rack is off, I may try to move it more to one side. I used the mount to err on the side of caution. I don't want to worry about 5 gallons of gas flying off the front of the Jeep in the unlikely event of a crash.

I've never seen one of these steel cans for water. They probably exist. I have a plastic 6 gallon can I use for water. Paid about $10 for it at K-Mart. Its too big for one of these holders, but I keep it inside the Jeep, out of the sun. |

I was gunna say... probably won't see a metal one because those plastics are great for water. I am going to get a plastic one and make a mount for it for the rack! |

Got the can and now I have a question... Is it okay to leave a rachet strap in the elements of ourside? or is there a better way of keeping the jerry inside the mount? |

Mine just came with a 3/4" cinch strap, which looked worthless. I use two of those rubber bungees, plus a cable lock. I don't leave it up there when driving around town. In fact, I take the whole rack off if I know I won't be wheeling for a few weeks. |

For those without a RL bumper or roof rack. Here is a good way to mount a jerry can to your spare tire. If you have a welder you can fab one up pretty easy. Blitz can mount Blitz can carrier |

I saw that same metal gas can in Checker Auto Parts two days ago. I should have looked at the price they had for it. |
