I saw this link: http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/10/no ... get-1-mpg/

I find the harmonic coming from tire/road noise when I drive on perpendicular brushed concrete very annoying. I am ready to pull the circuit out of a pair of Noise canceling head phones and hook it up to an amp and some speakers.

Any thoughts?

I have heard of trucks using it, how can it hurt?

Can lead to fatal accidents if you can not hear something breaking and having time to react(say a u-joint),couldn't here someone honking at you,and so on and so on.

If your that annoyed by it get different tires, different vehicle,or don't drive on that part of the road.

I wear noise canceling headphones when I fly on smaller planes, they only drop the noise 10dB but not eliminate it. I will bring my dB meter when I drive over this crappy section of I-355 tomorrow and report the results.

You are free to do as you please but it seems like a bit of a hassle to me just for some occasional road noise. Just my 2 cents.

Post subject:  How much louder it is

On a regular concrete road with the brush marks going the direction of travel going 65MPH total noise level is 74dB
On Black Top at 65MPH the total noise level is 74dB as well
On rough concrete that is ready to have black top laid on top at 65MPH the total noise level is 75dB
On the lousy cross brushed concrete at 65MPH the total noise level is 78dB :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Add to that the pitch is higher and a shreaking noise compared to the lower pitched rumble on the other surfaces.

BTW: 78dB is twice as loud as 75dB, that is how the scale works.

May the IDOT PE who thought this up accidentally swallow a shot of Dave's Insanity Sauce instead of the good stuff :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
