Post subject:  engine light...

hey everyone...
o my engine light came on, checked the code, and both P0442 and P0455 came one.. small leak and gross leak for EVAP... anyway; comes to find out my gas tank lid had opened up..

my question is there a way that i can turn off the light? or does it go off automaticully?

thanks

If it is just the gas cap and nothing else causing the problem, it will go off by itself after a few start and run cycles.

Or remove your negative power lead on the battery for 15-20 min.

thanks for the help guys.. i have driven roughly 150 miles.. light is still on.. should i be worried about something else? or is this normal for that type of code.

i am thinking of just disconnecting the battery just to reset it.

any suggestions?

If it is a more serious problem it will come back even after you reset it by disconnecting the battery. if you did it properly it will be off and either stay off or come on in a few seconds.

when you take it off leave it off for a while, flash the lights with it disconnected to discharge any energy left in the system.

I have the same codes on my duaghters 03. swapped gas caps and still have the same problems. checked as many hoses as I can find and they all seem ok. looks like it's dealership time for a smoke test. :x

If you can't get it to clear, you can usually go over to an auto parts store and borrow their scantool and clear it. Takes a few seconds to do. If there is still a leak it will come back though. I've been fighting with the P0442 for a little while now trying to figure out where the leak is. I can't stand the dealerships around here and do not want to deal with them.

Well, I think I found my leak. replaced these 2 little guys that I found back by the firewall on the drivers side. looks like the exhaust manifold likes to bake them and make them dry and brittle over time. I cleared the codes and we will see how it goes from here.

was it hard to replace? how long did it take you and how much did it cost for the part.

had the same happen to me a while back. that hose is cheap, like my local parts store just gave it to me. and its as easy as pushing a hose onto 2 barbs. 10 min and your done.

I bought a foot of 5/16 and 3/8 fuel line grade tubing and cut them to fit. Just a touch of vasoline and they slid right on. 30 minutes (includes the trip to parts store) and $2.60 later and I was done.
