Post subject:  Back up lights...

Hey ya'll! Okay so we all know that the back up lights on the Liberty aren't exactly what you'd call flood lights... so I've been trying to think of what I can use to add some extra UMPH (I'm making it a word!) to the reverse lights. So if you have done this modification, I'd really appreciate some pictures and perhaps a lil explanation on how you did it and how well its working for ya!!!

Thanks in advance and happy new year!!!

The back up lights are useless for me. I can't see anything behind me, they dont really work.

Get some aftermarket carbon fiber tail lights and you can see the world behind you! I love them!

Or you can add a Renegade light bar facing the opposite direction :-D

I am working on something right now for the hitch reciever, and currently have a Japanese vehicle "fog light" behind the rear spare. After work today (tonight) I will try to get some photos and do a write up of it ... nothing special, but it helps slightly.
It doesnt help enough though, that is why I am going to do some work to see what I can do to get a light in the hitch reciever.
Total cost either way for me was about 30-40 dollars (to have light in spare tire and in hitch).

Post subject:  LED lights

I've seen some listings on ebay for some replacement light bulbs (parking, brake, reverse etc.) made from LEDs. I wonder if these would be any brighter? The one person I did write to about the proper replacement bulb for our Liberty didn't answer
my question (I sent it two times as well). Schmuck.

If you come up with a solution, I think a lot of people would be interested.

I have the IPF Back-up light set-up mounted on my spare tire (available thru RRO). It does help quite a bit. However if you do go that route, make sure it's based on the smaller hitch size, not the 2" size (2" square is larger than the hole in the rim).

I mounted a cheap driving light to my spare tire mount and wired it into my reverse lights. Works good for me.

Here's mine:

These lights were cheap at Autozone. Maybe $20. I then added a relay to the 12 volt supply for the rear 12 volt plug. (right rear) So they come on when I put the Libby in reverse, but they get their power from the power plug feed. There's a plug in the bottom inside the right rear cover that you can get wires through to the lights

I did the same as boxhead execpt I hook them up to a seperate switch so they could be turned on by them self. I did this so even with the engine off I could use the lights. They come in handy camping or hooking up my trailer at night.

I went to advance/discount auto parts and purchased a back up light kit for your trailer hitch. It mounts with big zipties. it was so easy and produces alot of light. 30 bucks!

That's what mine is, though I actually mounted them to the rear plastic bumper. It's sturdy enough for these lights.
