| Post subject: | Another KJ buggy |
Four Wheeler magazine has a feature on a SFA KJ in their OCT issue. Not just another rock buggy, but a street legal, licensed street/offroad KJ. Yes it has a fiberglass body but this one actually retains most of the looks of a Liberty. Based out of Mesa, AZ with a 5.7 450hp V8 and a value of $80k I LIKE http://www.fourwheeler.com/featuredvehi ... index.html |

I know , that's what I'm sayin' . It still mostly looks like a KJ! At least it's not one of those little half hoods with the 3 slot grill ! |

Looks good for sure, but at what point does the build cease to be the model it's built off of ? When you change the engine ? when you redo the chassis ? When did the KJ stop being a KJ and become a 'buggy' ? |

When you change the engine ? when you redo the chassis ? When did the KJ stop being a KJ and become a 'buggy' ? When JJ or USAFCOP or OHV_KJ or any of the SFA guys are building their KJ, they are still basically using the original unibody for their attachment points ( with some beefed up support of course ) for all the suspension pieces. As soon as a new full custom chassis goes under it as the base platform, and the body is just pieces bolted on, IMHO, it ceases to be a KJ and becomes a KJ Buggy. ...... I think ( or is it because they called it a buggy in the mag.? ) |

When you change the engine ? when you redo the chassis ? When did the KJ stop being a KJ and become a 'buggy' ? When it looks like THAT. It's like defining love, you just know |

When does it stop being a Liberty? Well when they say this about it, Quote: The foundation for Vokoun's rig is a quality Campbell Enterprises Custom Fabrication chassis. There are many cool features integrated into the fat-free chassis, including removable nerf bars. The Jeep Liberty-based bodywork is fiberglass with tinted Lexan doors...
IMHO this is about as close as a NASCAR team calling their car a Chevy Malibu or Ford Fusion. The cars have nearly NOTHING in common with an actual production vehicle. |

I've seen similar discussions on other forums go on forever and a day as to when it is no longer a Jeep. Once you begin pulling out the stock components and begin swapping in bigger engines & axles. That street legal "buggy" is sweet and it does look a bit like a Liberty from a certain angle but that's all. The rest of the "buggy" is definitely not a Liberty. |
