Post subject:  Pre Install Questions on Rotor Installs

Hey Guys,

Well its that time after 50k on the OD I have to replace my rotors :). I just ordered them and they should be in sometime early next week. With that being said any heads up you can give me on what to expect? I will be putting them on both the front and the rear. Any tools I should be preparied to have etc would be very helpful. I will make sure to take photos and do a writeup when I am done.

Thanks,
Daniel

No tools that you shouldnt already have. I dont remeber the size of the nut on the caliper, but i remember it being BIG. I think i used an adjustable on it. Sometimes the rotors will rust on and be hard to get off. Mine just fell off on my jeep but you may need to use a hammer to get them off. I dont like to hit them hard b/c im afraid it may hurt the bearing in the wheel. Just a few good taps to get them off should be ok. Rear is the same as front just smaller stuff. I hope you do have rear disc and not drums.

Its an easy job. Took me longer to set jack stands under the KJ than it did to change them. I used a metal coat hanger to tie my caliper's up when I changed the rotor.

A caliper depres tool is necessary. Go pick one up at sears or advance auto.

a caliper compressor is not necessary. Use a C-clamp, save the $10. Put the narrow end (with the threads) into the piston and the other end on the outside of the caliper (so simple you will see exactly what I mean when you get both the clamp and caliper in hand). I just saved you $10, make your own caliper hanger from either a coat hanger (cut to about 7"-9" and bend in an S-shape) or you can use a zip tie. I prefer the coat hanger myself. Do not remove the brake line and do not let the caliper dangle on the brake line. Put a little synthetic grease on the bushings where the caliper mounting bolts run through to eliminate squeaks. That should cover it.
