w00t! Just paid that sucker off! Five years of making payments. Five years of digging for change in the couch. Five years of taking my lunch to work. Five years of looking at stuff on the store shelves and saying "If only!". Five years of payments changes a man.

:-)r

Wait, you should wait till it's paid off before you start modding?

Guess we've been doing it wrong.

Neither, really. You should wait until you have money to mod. Before it was paid off, I was really, really broke. Now the straight jacket is a bit looser, but I'm still in a straight jacket. I'd love nothing more than to throw on a decent budget lift on the thing, throw on some skids and hooks... definitely hooks... but here's the thing. Now that I'm no longer saddled with a car payment, I need to turn my attention to other things in my life that have been neglected for the last three or so years:

I've got siding on the house that's beginning to fall off and needs painting. I've got sewer work that's going to have to get handled. My daughter needs a new bed and mattress set. I have a few other debts which need to get paid off. I need to replace my stolen GPSMAP 76. I feel nekkid without it. Plus, the money I did have for the Jeep was strictly for maintenance. I put on my totally pimp Powerslot front rotors and ceramic pads a couple of months ago. Rear brakes are needing replacement, but I'm sticking OEM with those.

So the mods will come, but probably not until next year. You kids'll be the first to get pics when I do get 'em put on. Thanks for all the 'grats, guys (and dolls).

Paid cash for mine. First car I ever actually held the title to. No car payment is defiantly a huge weight off your shoulders...

As for modding while making payments- to each his own, everyone is in a different situation money wise- now more then ever.

congrats though man... it is rare for people to keep a car long enough to pay off a long term loan.

My loan was 0% so the 5 year plan didn't make much difference. I could have just as easily done a 7 year and lowered my payments. But I agree, I'm feeling 10 lbs lighter today.

I drive cars until they can't be driven anymore. I plan to do the same with the libby. If the car industry depended on me for its sales, it would be broke. Oh wait...

I just paid mine off last month and got my title in the mail this week from Chrysler. It says I have to take it to the DMV to get another title. Never had to do that before with paying off a vehicle. I wonder if this is a Colorado thing.

Interesting. I'll let you know if I have to do that when I get mine in about 10 days.

Just ribbing you a little. Most of Eugene's mods have been done on the cheap with used parts. You might have seen YelloCoyote's posts about all the used stuff that was used and who it was acquired from.

I'm actually envious as we have just about a year and a half left before it's paid off.

Congratulations! It feels really good. I paid mine off June of 2008, and my wifes CR-V was paid for March of this year, so now we're car payment free! The plus side is my Jeep is still running like new and her Honda has a lot of miles left in it as well! Life is good!
