When did you start noticing this problem and has it gotten worse?

I would test this more.

Check the Fluid level and color first.
make sure you do not have burnt fluid.
If so Flush the system

If the fuild is good.
Drive 50 and not 45
or 40 and not 45

45MPH is a spot that can make 4 Speed hunt for the right gear.
it is apiss poor ration...

Why any tranny is still a 4 speed is beyound me. they should all be 5 6 or 7 by now... any reason why I hate car makers who are lazy...

You willing to pay a extra $2500+ for that 6+ speed auto? If so you'd really love the high maintenance costs for those also.

Heck with more than 4 gears. I can hardly stand it shifting 4 times, more less 6-7 times! I think 5 gears and the alternate 2nd down shift would suit the 3.7 a little better though. IE, the 545rfe.
