I had my KJ in getting a few things done, One was to install the kit. Now origially I was lead to believe that it was able to be fitted simply from under the vehicle, by removing the valve body. But the guys have said to me this arvo that to fit the kit, involve the box being completely removed form the car so as "a Ring" thingy can be fitted somewhere up top.????

What is others experience with getting the Transgo shift kit installed???

It can be installed by dropping the pan - the only thing extra is a resistor that connects 2 wires on the side.

(I did have to drop the tranny - but that was to install the Suncoast converter and new pump - nothing in the shift kit needed it)

Yes, it talks about that ring in the instructions that came with the kit. You do not need to drop the tranny if you do not want them to add the ring.

Ahh Ok, Silly question, but, What is the ring supposed to do, and will it be ok to not install it??? Will I still get the benefit of the kit???? I need to do something with this box, as , well, it always seems to be slipping, and I get a lot of heat from under the car..

Thanks Chris

For the 45RFE/545RFE that snap ring is a redesigned snap ring is a known issue in those transmissions.Unless your racing/generally over abusing the trans you should not need that updated snap ring installed. It is all explained in the instruction manual for the kit.

Wish I never asked the place to do the instal.

First, they couldnt understand the valves.....I was a bit worried, but they are a Jeep dealership, with Jeep 5 star trained mechs

Installed, but, no gear changes - limp mode, no up change

Now, they say the solenoid pack is no good and they are replacing that..

They've had the car for a week now - it was booked in for 3 hrs of 1 day.

At this rate I'll have to replace the whole box by next week.

Complete disaster.

Ive had the kit sitting around for a couple years and Ive not had it installed for that reason. Hopefully they are not making you foot the bill for something they screwed up?

It should take about 2-3 hours max to do the shift kit for the 45RFE/545RFE without doing the snap ring, should take less then 1 hour for the 42RLE and most of that time is dropping the trans pan and re-sealing it(for both).

I bet they forgot to disconnect the battery when they unplugged the connector on the valvebody.

I bet the same, and now they have dammaged the Soleniod pack.. I still know nothing so I guess they still dont have it fixed. About an hour is what I thought. It took them a day to change 1 engine mount.

Not Happy Jan.

OK it goes... auto feels no different to before... then again I have no idea as to if the transgo kit is in there or not, Jeep just got it back together and gave it to me, I havent even paid a bill yet...

I'll see how it goes over the week end, but I have to go back Tuesday away because the engine light is still on.. (one of the things they were to fix last week)

I also just missed buying a CRD Manual KJ for a guy I know, I took too long deciding on if I would change over to it, then last week happened and I thought ...Yes, CRD, Yes Manual, I'll get it... but he sold it..That lottery win better come soon..
