| Post subject: | Problem with Al's Arms (Tire Rubbing Arm) |
I just replaced my Gen 3 arms with the new 4.5 Arms after one of the Gen 3 broke. Now I am having an issue of the tire rubbing the arm just above where the arm connects to the knuckle. I am running 255/70/16 tires on the factory rims. Anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions other than grinding the arms down or running wheel spacers? Is anyone running 245/75/16 on stock wheels with a Frankenlift and JBA GEN 4.5 control arms? Here is a picture of the problem.

I have the 3.5's and my 255/70/16's rub on the arm part using stock rims. I just noticed it like a week ago, so my tires have rubbed the powder coating off. I'm going to pick up some soft 8's with 4" BS to try and fix my problem, might be the way to fix yours. |

I am running 265/75/R16's stock rims with the gen 4.5 A Arms and mine still have some clearance. I think it looks like you are missing the spacer?. . .

![]() Marlon said that there were two different ball joints in these 4.5s. Maybe that is why there is no spacer. I am surprised the 265s don't rub unless it is because the widest section of the tire is above the arm contact point in my picture. |

Interesting that your half shaft seems to be almost straight. Mine has a pretty good downslope to it. As my suspension compresses up, I get a bit more clearance, but nothing like is pictured. |

So it rubs on the tube and on the nose of the flat plate, or just on the tube? Marlon said he had never heard of this before. I know running the 255/70 tire size on stock rims puts me into a very small group of people. As of right now, I am thinking of buying new tires in 245/75 size, but I want to make sure that will solve the problem before dropping that kind of cash. I am in need of new tires, but had planned on saving a few months to get them. The other option I am weighing is getting some 1.25 inch wheel spacer/adapters. |

Since the Soft 8's cost less than tires, and I didn't like the idea of 20 extra lug nuts to deal with, I plan on going with the soft 8's, and the 4" backspacing will push my tires out around 1.5" |

Have not had it aligned yet since I am afraid I'd rub through a sidewall on the way to the alignment shop. I gave each arm 3 shots of moly before putting the wheels on. |

an alignment will stand the tires up some, may not help a lot but that may be part of the problem right there. with the new arms you'll be pulling the bottom of the tire back in some |

It was the side that the gen 3 arm broke and had been replaced with an oem arm and aligned. Looks like the gen 4.5 pushed the top of the wheel out already. It would appear that an alignment would need to push the bottom of the wheel out to get correct camber. SO I am seriously the only one that has this issue? Anyone got pictures of 245/75/16 on oem wheels (no spacers) with the 4.5 arms and a lift? |
