What do I need to do? i have had the (trac-Lok) rear diff changed at 60K not by me because too many people said different things about what to put in it, so I had hibdon's do it. I don't think I have had the front changed, nor transmission, nor transfer case, coolant.... I really need to learn how to do them all! I have the 4-speed auto transmission with the Command-trac part time 4wd. I just want to do it all the right way! |

Buy all the goods you need and then just take it slowly, concentrating on one thing at a time. Good one to start with is the transfer case. It is fairly easy to get too, and easy to change. Park on level ground. Remove the skid if you have one, Remove the fill plug 1st (so you know you will be able to refill it) then the drain plug. About 2 qts will come out so have a pan and rags handy. reinstall drain plug. Not sure if anyone else sells the bottle pump that Amsoil has but it makes the job super easy. The pump screws onto the bottle and all you have to do is insert the end of the pump into the fill hole and move the bottle up and down. (If you can't find that type, there are other pumps that work and make it easier than trying to do it w/ a funnel.) It will get all but the last drops out of the bottle and you just drain those into the 2nd bottle and repeat. Once you have just about all 2qts in there, reinstall the fill plug and test drive it. Should be good to go! next easiest is the front diff. Anyone want to write that one up? |

Yeah, super super easy.... None of the work is that hard, you just have to have a few tools for the plugs |

so fluids? because I think I have the handle on how to do the front/rear diffs, trasnfer case seems very simple as per...http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30383, transmission has filters I believe... still not sure about it, coolant I don't think I really need to do. |

You could wait 10k more before you do your coolant.... it's rated for 5 years or 100k.... The trans should have one filter to it. basically you drop the pan and pull the old filter out, and then insert the new filter and fill it back up... that just a really simple explanation.... |

you'll need some of whats called friction modifier you can get it at a dealer and get the mopar stuff or get it at advance/autozone in a 4oz squeezy tube hint.. put the modifier in before you put in the axle juice or you'll smack yourself in the forehead with a greasy hand and say DOH - just makes life easier you're supposed to put like half the tube in which the tubes are usually 8oz or so, so ya typically have enough for two changes by the way, don't freak if your transfer case fluid is black as tar, mine was never changed apparently until i bought the vehicle at 60k'ish and from what i've gathered the transfer case juice needs to be changed atleast every 30k regardless of how you drive, more often if you wheel if its black and you're uneasy about it, fill up the transfer case and drive it a few hundered miles or so and drain it again and refill as kind of a flush the lubelocker gaskets for the 8.25 chrysler rear end are outstanding if you don't ike playing with RTV gasket goo as well |
