Has anyone ever had an issue with the reverse switch on the 5-speed? Mine for some reason seems to be shorting out every time I put the Jeep into reverse. It wouldn't be a huge issue, but it takes my turn signals and rear defroster with it every time. They're wired to the same fuse. I'm OCD about using my signals and with winter coming I don't want to lose my defroster in case I have to back out of a spot. |

So, I replaced the switch and everything works fine now. There was tranny fluid all over the old switch. I don't know if there is supposed to be, but it seems like the switch may have been shorting due to fluid getting into the housing. I used to leave my Jeep in Reverse gear when I park it depending on the incline, but I don't think I will be any more. For all you 5-speed owners, the warning signs are if your back-up lights start flickering after you put it in reverse, your switch is about to go. They are fused to the rear defroster and the turn signals. It's fuse 39 (10 Amp/Red) on the panel inside the dash access panel. |
