well I just got inside to keep me from taking a sledge hammer to my jeeps engine because I am uber pissed right now. It seems whoever put the top bolt on the therm. housing put it on wayy to tight and got stripped while I was trying to take it off. It needs replacing but I have no clue how the get this SOB out. Its really pissing me off and I want to take my jeep and throw it off a cliff someone where some other state. Anyone know what I should do in this case? The area is too small to get a pair of vise's in there so I don;t know what else to do. Hurry and give me suggestions before I stab my jeep in its face. |

Couple of things you can try. There are tools made specifically for removing stripped bolts and nuts. Here's one example: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952166000P Also, if it's not completely stripped round, you might have some luck with a universal socket like this (it worked when I stripped my oil drain plug): http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00947078000P |

I don't have ten bucks to spend on one of those. I spent all my money on the darn coolant and the therm. |

Know anyone that welds? Weld a nut to the top of it, maybe? |

Well, if that's really the case, I guess you're up a creek. I don't know any magic way to remove stripped bolts other than with the appropriate tools. Good luck with it! |

I could weld it if I had a welding machine, which I don't. And like what Tjkj said, plastic house, bad idea. Don't want to melt it. Don't even really want to weld on anything while its still on the engine. Some people suggested easy outs, so I might have to find somebody with some of those and use them. |

I can't see the sears link while at work, but you want a BOLT OUT, not an easy out. you can get them as either home depot or vato zone for 20 bucks... works well on the end of a 3/8th's ratchet... |

Yes, the Sears link is to a Bolt Out set. (easy outs are for broken bolts and screws) |

Would a place like Autozone, Advanced Auto, or NAPA have a loaner set of something that you could use to get it out? |

Yeah, I'd rather have a loaner set than having to spend 20 bucks on that. How would that work if the bolt is like completely stripped and theres so corners for it to grap onto? |

It doesn't just grab the bolt, it digs into it. So it doesn't need corners. |

Ok, I was just looking at the bolt out thing, and it looks like they don't have one for an 8mm bolt. |
