It snowed again today and I engaged 4hi just cause. So I was wondering if it's normal for there to be major binding when turning the wheel at full lock. I'm running 235/70/16 dueler revos. Possibly may be tire rub? |

Yes, that is 100% normal. You should never use part time on surfaces with high amounts traction or on any sort of asphalt, concrete, etc. Only use it offroad or when the road is 100% covered in snow. Check this out: http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41211 |

On non-snow covered area's of the road being in part time 4wd will cause major binding even if going straight.Even wet pavement is "slippery" enough for part time 4wd.

Even offroading I get less binding than on wet pavement. The regular shop i go to told me it was normal last time I was there, but it just seem unnatural! |

Troy meant to say even wet roads ARE NOT slippery enough to use part time on. DO NOT use part time if you can visually see the hard road surface that youre driving on. Guess you didnt read my first post? |

I've never needed part time on a wet road unless it was over 2 feet deep. |

whether you are in snow, mud, wet road, dry road, rock climbing, grassy field, etc you should never crank your wheel to full lock while in 4wd. Binding is absolutely normal and incredibly bad for your rig to be doing so. |

I never lock mine in until its too bad and won't go anymore in 2 wheel, still haven't determined why even on wet roads some want to lock it in??? Makes no sense to me of course I learned how to drive on old back roads slipping and sliding all the way. |

I have to say that you're wearing out parts extra fast locked in 4wd on hard pavement... (don't a$k how anyone might know that, but the bill$ wa$ $ub$tantial). I used to find myself faced with a mix of icy and wet pavement on an hour long morning commute, and ran in 4wd hi for some of that. The binding you're feeling is your Jeep sending you a message. It would be good to heed what it's saying! |
