I just picked up a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3.7 L automatic that I ordered new. About 3 miles after I left the dealer's lot, the ESP/BAS red warning light and the ESP orange indicator light came on and stayed on along with a chime sound. The weather was cold and clear. I returned to the dealer and left the engine running so Service could see the lights on. They checked it out but could not find anything wrong except for a connector that wasn't latched tight. At 100 miles the same thing happened again (the weather was cold and damp). I called the Service Dept and brought it in. After 2 days they called and said they couldn't find anything wrong and don't know why it's happening. They said they called Chrysler about it. I picked it up and 5 miles after I left the dealer, the same lights went on and stayed on again. The weather was cold (mid 20s) and clear. Total miles on Jeep 130. I don't detect any driveability problems. Has anyone see this happen on a 2006 Jeep Liberty?

I have never had that happen to me before and I have a 2006 model.. Have you tried turning off and then turning back on the ESP.. There is a button on the steering column to see if it does anything..

Have they tried reseting the computer??? Usually that handles all of it. If its happening when its wet out maybe ice or water are getting into a loose or open sensor...sorry bro I have a 2006 Renny and I haven't heard of it or seen it....let us know what the outcome is....because if it happens to me or anyone else on here with ESP we'd like to know how to deal with it.

I have disconnected the neg side of the battery and left it off for ten minuites, it still happens. When they come on, pulling to the side of the road and cycling the ignition switch off and back on resets it.

Today I brought my new liberty to the dealer where I bought it and had the clockspring/steering angle sensor replaced, part number 56010619ae. I was told that several other people that bought 06 liberty's there are coming back with the same problem also.
Thanks for the info. :)

I take it that cured the ESP/BAS light...

The same thing happened to my '06 Renagade. When I took it back to the dealership, they were aware that the part Carlo mentioned has been a problem and required replacement. They ordered the part and replaced it in about an hour and a half. No problems since and that has been about 4 weeks ago. 8)

Its back. The warning lights are coming back on again. Brought it back to the dealer for the service dept to check the trouble codes. They told me they are going to replace the anti-lock brake module along with the hydraulic control unit and have them coming in shortly. The service dept has treated me very good, has given me no runarounds, and has respected my complaint as a valid one. Maybe the quality control from Continental Teves on their MK25e electronic brake control systems is not so good and they leave it up to the dealer's service dept to catch the bad ones. I have 470 miles on the liberty.

Some dealerships are actually good. Mine seems to be doing aight. I know some people that had some troubles with them but theyve done me good. I had my air bag light come on about a year ago but only came on when it was cold. The light had went off when i took it there and they couldnt do a thing about it b/c for some reason it doesnt store the codes? Took it back when it was on and they fixed it first time. Very pleased, they couldnt do anything about my light coming on when they shouldnt though, said they would have to see it when it does it? Whats that going to do?

I have a very good hook-up when it comes to my service dept. The service mgr. used to be a salesman and I bought 2 new Jeeps off of him including the Libby.

I am not aware that there is a TSB, however, the service manager at the dealership said that they have had a few of these that they replaced.

My service dept. has never given me any flak. Of course, since I keep their printers, switches and routers up and running, that wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it?

I had the same problem as mentioned in this thread. The clockspring replacement was the cure. Thanks to this forum I was armed with the knowledge to fend off my service department's initial BS!
