So I'm driving along, all the sudden my lights do dim and I cant turn anymore. Pull over and there is no belt there. Just thinking it would be easy fix but then i notice one of the pully's is bent and hitting the block of the engine.

Don't mind the question mark, I was double checking with my friend to see if we remembered right.

Does anybody know what that pully is and what would cause it to be flush on the engine block? You have to really force it to get it to move.

Thanks,

Ryan

It is part of the tensioner assembly. Easy to replace. Call NAPA and get a new setup for about $50....

definently recommend having a buddy on hand to help with the belt. Had mine seize while towing a tandem axle trailer, had to limp to a autoparts store and change it out in there parking lot. Replacing the assembly is easy but if you have the larger fan shroud like I do the belt can be a bit of a pain.

As its been said, its part of the auto tensioner. The bearing goes bad and throws the belt. Simple and fairly cheap fix. That part should really be replaced with the belt. Ill probably change mine at 60k.

i just got mine back from the dealer, both my pulley bearings on the tensionser were shot, my water pump bearing was shot and my crank seal was leaking. good thing i had an extended warranty so all i had to pay was 100 dollar deductible, i probably shouldn't had been swimming so much :P

Odd, I had an identical experience with my 04 Liberty Sport :? The belt tensioner seized up and the belt torn up. I took it it to be replaced under the extended service warranty and they discovered the water pump was bad too. No bad crank seal though. I wonder if it's an issue with the 04 Liberty Sport's?

not sure mine is and 05 renegade, but i am pretty sure mine was from driving in some really skunky/muddy water a while back :?

Yup, being in a lot of mud can cause them to go bad quicker. The same pulley went bad on our ram with the 4.7l.

Would replace both the plastic pulleys. One is the Idler and one is the tensioner. They start out making a cricket like clicking noise and then freeze up.
Napa has them ,
tensioner #38015, $22.19
Idler #38009, $16.69.
