| Post subject: | Installing Driving Lights ? |
I'm about ready to rip by F*****g hair out after Using the Search feature. I found an over-whelming amount of info, but NOTHING showing a How-To install driving lights! I'm SURE it's Operator error.... Anyways, Can someone point me to a How-To Tech article on installing Driving Lights on an 05 Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition ? I do NOT want to drill big holes in the front fascia panel. I would like to install them on top of the bumper (if possible). BTW, the front of my Lib looks exactly like this person's Lib.
Thanks for your help. |

I have an '04.... there are holes in the bumper directly above the tow hooks. remove the tow hooks you'll see the holes and that's how you will be able to determine where to drill the plastic part of the bumper. I'm not sure if the rule will apply to the '05 and newer KJ's. There is a post showing pictures of it somewhere... Good luck! |

I don't have a write-up, but I do have a solution with a couple of pics. I bought a pair of Hella 500 Driving Lights. I took the U bracket off of the lights and then removed the bolt from the bottom of them. I went to Lowes and found the biggest metal washer I could. I centered the U brackets onto the washers and then welded them down. I also sprayed them silver to help them blend into my bumper and also to help prevent rust. I then added 3M two sided tape to the bottom of them, lined them up on the bumper, aimed the beam and then stuck them on. Then I finished running the wiring. Be sure you don't mount them to close to the grille. You still want to be able to remove the grille. I ran the wires under the grille. I have had them on for more than a year and they are still holding well. They don't shake hardly at all either. You have to hit a pretty good bump to make them shake any. It seems to be a pretty sturdy way of mounting them without ruining your bumper.

I didn't drill into my bumper. They are 3M two-sided taped to my bumper. |

So be it. I'd rather not have holes in my bumper. I'll just add new lights to the existing wiring. |

how sturdy are they? and how does the moisture affect them? nver really heard of someone using 3M tape... but i guess to each his own. looks good though... creative way of installing Aux lights. |

Impressive that the tape support the light's weight after highway driving? Have you looked at bumper 'guards'? Here is an alternative but don't know if this is available for the 05 model. They come with light clamps. They protect the plastic bumper and are pretty decent for a tube bumper 'guard' http://www.waag.com/showroom/106.php |

I am much more interested in tow hooks than a bumper "guard". |

I know a lot of people say "it isn't your vehicle until you drill a hole in it"
I've had interest in my idea from a few of my friends so I'm going to have to do a write up c/w pics. It's really a simple idea that costs less than $10 and doesn't involve drilling. |
