I was out on Saturday, traveling a trail in Anza Borrego State Park that required fording a creek a couple of times. The first crossing was dry, the second about a foot deep, but before we reached the third, we came across a disabled Bronco. The owner, working under the hood, said that the 3rd crossing was four feet deep and that we shouldn't try it. He said that when he attempted it, the water hit his fan blade and bent them into the radiator. When we reached the third crossing and stopped. A park ranger came by and we asked him how deep it was, and he said upto the floorboards of his XJ, which looked like it had some lift (I'm guessing two feet from ground to floor pan). We waited a while and saw some other XJ's and a couple of Toyota's come through and they were wet upto the floor boards too. Anyway, I wanted to try it, but wasn't sure how far I could go with my unlifted KJ with 235/70R16 tires on standard rims, and not get water in the cab or flood the engine? Will it stay reasonable dry inside up past the seal on the doors? Or should I avoid anything that is higher than the floor pan?
