Post subject:  RRO Roof Rack...?

Does anyone on the 'board have the Rocky Road rack on their KJ (or KK) and if so how do you like it? How was the fit and finish? Was it difficult to install?

I am considering this rack for my KJ. I'm not sure if I really need a basket type rack and the RRO seems like a good alternate that would still carry the spare and a few of the lighter camping items. Also, I like that it is not as tall overall as a basket type roof rack.

Other than the spare, I want to avoid carrying heavy things up high on the roof so I'll need to find a way to carry the trail jack and axe securely inside (or on the tailgate) and design a dual Jerry can mount for where the spare used to be... I saw a post about that on here once. I'm sure at some point weight becomes an issue for the tailgate too.

Any thoughts or advice...? Thanks.

Personally I would look at what Rock Lizard offers if you want a flatter rack before looking at anything RRO sells

there was once a KK on here that was their test vehicle, but I haven't seen or heard from the owner in 8 months now

Yeah I know 8)

We're pretty slow developing this stuff and I'm pimping out my ride first :D and making said pimpness available. Basically when I'm done with all that I'll be hitting the KK.

How much are we talking for this roof rack? I would need something with bars all the way around though since I would pack it with beach/camping stuff.

edit: Have you tried skis and snowboards on it?

I think the rack could easily be adapted to utilize either standard Yakima or Thule mounts, the former simply requiring the cross-bars be made of 1" OD tubing (which I think Boiler and I had a conversation about months back, so it probably has a jig for it, now :) ) That would make any kind of attachment or accessory fit well without any additional overhead clearance necessary.

How much for what rack? Mine?

If so you can check out my link in my signature or send me a PM. As for my welded front and rear cross tubes, yes I can make them out of 1" tube. Don't need a special jig or anything. I could change diameters on those really easily.

See I love the look of the welded in cross bars on the silver mount in his thread. As for skis, i would honestly just bungy them to the rack and call it a day. No sense in spending extra money. Like I said I am extremely interested in this rack as I will be in need of one soon.

Edit: My mistake I saw the pricing. I was originally looking at the mopar rack for the custom one Id have to save a bit more. I will have to see where the funds are around christmas time to see which i can afford.

So no RRO owners eh?

I'll look again at the RL rack but I sort of like the modular design of the RRO so I can remove just the rack part and leave the rails someday if needed. And I like the RRO price. Also, I've ordered from them twice without any issues.

Boiler...what about a spare wheel mount? Do you make one or will others fit? How long for delivery...? Your rack looks 'clean' and I like it, good work...!

Thanks all!

Give me a link to which ever mount you're interested in and we'll make it work.

I usually tell people it is 1-3 weeks to ship a rack. Right now we've got parts stocked so it should take 2 weeks at the very max to ship one.

There is a reason for that... Do a lot of research before doing any business with them.

I have done business with them and they've been no trouble whatsoever.

So if no one has input on their personal experience with the RRO roof rack, I'll consider the thread closed.

Thanks all!

Will do, but I do have to warn you I brought the idea up to the boss/wife and she wasnt too happy. I will try my best to save, but I think it may be mopar for me. But I will be in contact for sure.

As far as my experience goes, anything made by boiler is Grade AAA+ supreme fab work.

my rack has been awesome, real easy to mount up too, It barely weighs anything, I put it on my roof by myself after I coated it, and I didn't even scratch the roof.

Yeah I like the aluminum or black look, and the idea of replacing the PITA renegade rails sounds nice.
