Bad Starter at 155,555?

My KJ does not want to start...

I'm pretty sure my starter is dead
I just replaced my Optima this week under warantee....
and replaced the spark plugs 2 weeks ago ( and yes they are gapped corretly)
It does start about 1 out of 10 times of trying
here is a video.... Any other suggestions before I buy a $100+ starter

Do you know how hard it is to pull out? If it's easy to get out, then take it to Autozone or Advance and have them put it under a load test. They should be able to tell if it's pulling to much or no enough. 155K should be due for a new one.

I already pulled off the skid and removed the front drive shaft...
I think the stupid cat converter might be in the way... But I'm not sure yet.
I think there are 2 bolts holding it in place...

You need a starter Chris, check the teeth of the fly wheel if possiable. :wink:

Also get that exhast leak fixed, that can cause the ECM to compenstate and cause poor fuel economy and even a miss, ask you'r buddy rokee !!! :lol:

Yep, at 155,000 + miles, I would just replace it................... and go again for another 150,000 + miles

Sounds like your throw out mechanism is shot. The motor sounds good but when the starter gear hits the ring gear it retracts instead of engaging. Time for a new starter.

In the old days you could buy a rebuild kit but I doubt they have them anymore.

Got the new starter (remanufactured) put in today
I did not have to lower the cat converter..

What a difference!!!

and yes all of that sand came out of the starter! :shock:

I can't believe it made it this long!

The only sand I can remember going in was at the Outer Banks 4 yrs ago.. Or maybe the Badlands 2 yrs ago....

He is one of my most faithful followers but also one that strays away the most. We have our "talks" at least 3 times a week to keep him going on the KJ path to enlightenment :wink:

Sometimes those who are most faithful are also those who are tempted and stray the most. Thank you Reverend for keeping him close to your line of site. We wouldn’t want to lose a dear friend.

This is why LOST is so cool, because you can keep your KJ, and go buy yourself an XJ (just like I did), and still be a member of the church. Even the Reverend is eyeballing an XJ right down the road from him. Some ol’ lady is keeping it in good condition in a heated garage with super low mileage on it just for the Reverend.

I think its going to take some " Devine Intervention" to get that thing away from her and out of the garage though! She wants to sell it due to never driving it but she can't part with it! :shock:

She did say that she can tell that I would baby it like her husband did! :lol:
