I wonder if it's tied to oil prices? Synthetic rubber is made from oil. Or are we competing with China for natural rubber?

Thank Obama. In his infinite wisdom, or lack there of, signed a 30% tariff on Chinese tires, to help level the field for domestic tire makers... Now they have a window to raise their prices and increase their bottom line. I've been shopping for tires for a month and can tell you it's buyer beware. Prices are all over the place. I finally located 4 Firestone Destination M/T's in 245x75R16, out the door for $735. Thank goodness the price matched the Internet, plus shipping. Otherwise it would have been $1001.70!!
$96 of both prices is mounting, balancing, road hazard and front alignment...

Not to get too off topic but it seems no matter which side you vote for the people of this great country get screwed.

We can be as smart as we can. Buy the tires that last longer, purchased cheaper, do a better job. We can align our front ends, check tire pressure, and drive smarter. The days of wasting anything are over.

Out here in the desert we don't need mudders as much as where it rains! Sunshine don't need knobs! I grew up in the mud of Maryland and I don't miss it!

But mud tires work pretty darn well on those desert rocks!!! I'll take M/T's over AT's anyday!

Yup, they do. But anything works on Nevada/Utah rock that's like sand paper. You can almost go straight up! When my stock Goodyear's wear out, I'll be looking for something along the lines of a blocky A/T with a round profile for traction in sand and rocks. Do you have any suggestions?
