I have a Midnight Blue 06...

I live in West Texas where it ranges between 6 feet from he&& to 4 feet from he&& in the summer, but at least its a dry heat :ALONE:

I was needing some opinions as to how it would look if I line-x'd (diggerize it!!) :JEEPIN: my roof white. It would be similiar to how the Yota FJs roofs are white.

My thoughts are this... it would reduce the amount of heat inside my Jeep by reflecting rather than absorbing the heat...

Ok, so shoot away! Give me your thoughts, ideas or complaints!! :juggle:

Wouldn't white paint be cheaper?

Line-X has a warranty. Are you talking from top of winshield to back glass? I think it would look ok. Go for it!

Heat inside your jeep is not going to be effected too much by the color of your roof. The roof sheet metal will get hotter with darker colors, but with the insulation of the headliner, most of that head is going to be exhausted to the air before it significantly heats your interior.

The biggest factor is your window tinting / shading. The tinting absorbs the light, heating up the glass, which is cooled by the air outside the vehicle. With less tinting, the light just goes right through the glass, hits your interior and is converted to heat by warming your interior materials. Then that heat is trapped in the vehicle. If you have smooth, light colored interior, more of that light will reflect back out the windows, but most interiors aren't that reflective.

I believe most libertys have similar tinting in the rear. Best thing to do would be tint the drivers and passengers windows as much as you can get away with, and then use one of those white / reflective windshield screens. We had this discussion this weekend, just watch how dark you tint the drivers & passenger windows, as cops can get tickets or they can make you remove it on the spot if it is too dark for your states laws.

Have to disagree with Boiler regarding roof color

Painting it a lighter color will affect the heat that enters inside a lot
will agree with the glass part need to have the darkest tint you can get.
If you look at a lot of Safari vehicles they will have a lighter roof plus one other trick is to have a roof rack with a solid floor, painted a lighter color and as close to the roof as possible. If you have that with a 2 inch gap or so it allows air to flow between the rack and roof and keep the interior cooler. On a Liberty is harder to do, but by springs mine will have a solid floor at least over half of the roof .
I see nothing wrong with getting it Line-X'd and make sure you get the UV protection as well not all stores have it

Do it dude! I live just as close to he ll as you and have been on busses with white roofs and ones with just body colored roofs and I think it helps. Plus the Line X will make carrying stuff on the roof less damaging....my roof is scratched to all heck.

KJ04 - yes, white paint would be cheaper. Might have to look at the white herculiner from the auto stores!

JMSMN - yes sir, from windshield to back glass.

Boiler - My windows are tinted as dark as they can be for here in Texas. I have Limo on cargo windows and rear, 20% on passenger glass and 35% on fronts with a limo "eye brow" on windshield.

Tom and Neatus - My reasoning exactly. My wifes 4Runner is white and it is noticeably cooler in the summer. Also, if you put your hand on her 4Runner and the Jeep... definate difference in surface temp as well.

I appreciate all of the comments, ideas and input. I will let you guys know what I decide to do and post pics for approval or flames! :goink:

It will help with cabin temps. The insulating factor of line x is crazy.....Even with mine being black now, It is WAY cooler than when it was green

You would have to ask some one that has done just the belt. I know just the flat looking line x is going to be the cheapest...

I knew Digger would smell the Line-x in my post!

Thank you for posting Digger. I'm pretty sure this is the route I want to go. Not sure if I want white now or go with the same color as da :JEEPIN:

Since you say it has an insulating factor.

:ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

I smelled it all right :seuss:

I had to install hood lovers on my KK after getting it sprayed because the hood could no longer dissipate the heat because of the insulating factor.....

Go for it. I think it sounds like a good idea. And from how I have it pictured in my mind, it would look pretty cool too. Just as long as you don't repaint the rest "Smurf" blue like the FJ's

Oh, and Digger... Your KK is cooler now because it is so dang cold up there where you live. It is getting down to the 20's and maybe even teens here this week - coldest spell we have had in over 10 years! I miss the 60 degree days from last week.

Maybe someone could photoshop a white top on a dark blue or even "black" KJ ????
After having a few early model Broncos I have always like the looks of a white top

I hate the skunk look, but it's an absolute fact that it works. It's also one of the reasons I am going to try to get my whole Jeep painted next summer. This BS black is precisely what I didn't want. My summer temps get dangerously hot inside. Even with 35% on all windows (minus windshield obviously).
