Wow. Neither Chysler or Dodge made the list. Unless they were lumped in with Mercedes? |

Sad to say... I can believe Jeep being rated 17th. I've owned three... '99 TJ, '06 KJ and '08 JK. They have hardly been the best vehicles I've owned. Just check some of the other Jeep forums, especially the JK forum, and see all the things people complain about. My JK sounds like a bucket of bolts with all it's rattles, very thin sheet metal and plastic everywhere being held together by plastic screws... not to mention the 3:21 gears in a 4x4 vehicle. The KJ came stock with 3.73 gears, go figure. I would have to upgrade to the tow package to get better gears or another $10,000 for a Rubicon to get the best gears, transfer case etc. Then there are issues like both the hardtop and soft tops leaking. I could go on, the list of complaints is long. Most Jeep guys shrug their shoulders with that famous saying... "it's a Jeep thing". I don't subscribe to that school of thought. A $21,000 ~ $32,000 JK Wrangler should be built much better than it is. Of the three I've owned, the KJ has been the best built despite having to replace window regulators on a regular basis, the JK the worst. The TJ had it's own problems like cracked manifolds on the 4.0 engines throughout it's production run. Another are the radiators that leaked at the seam of the top. Chrysler never saw fit to fix either of the problems, just as they ignored the window regulator issue on the KJ. Don't get me wrong, I like the Jeeps I've owned for their off road capabilities and don't expect them to have the same high build quality of a good sedan or SUV... but maybe some day they'll get it right instead of cutting corners and fixing known issues that pop up. |

From working is the auto repair world for sometime that list is not in the least bit correct............. #1/5/7/8/9/10/11/12/14/15/16/19/20 don't even belong on that list. Those I listed have the most problems that show up at our shop, granted many are 4-8 years old and out of warranty already. |

You can't go by shop visits, since total number of sales drives a higher volume of that companies cars on the road. More cars from one company, greater chance of more shop visits by said company. Jeep.....made cheap thanks to Chrysler. Look at the problems the 2005 and new KJ's have with plastic window regulators. I have only good things to say about my Jeep. My first one and it obviously was not built on a Friday or day before a holiday....or the day after the Superbowl. *Knock on wood* I have owned three toyotas (pickup, celica, and camry). Not one single issue with all three. Consumer's Digest does look at info differently though. Jeep is hard to be compared when most of their vehicles find themselves going off-road and pick up much higher risk of breaking or things going wrong. |

I'm betting the number that go offroad are a small minority. Maybe 1:10 offroad, 1:25 seriously taken offroad. |

This chart shows something I have been saying for years: People assume that all Japanese cars are some how magic yet the bottom ten is frought with rising suners. However, much of this "poll" may be perception. Ford is #2, yet Mercury is way lower and the cars come off of the same lines as their twins at Ford. Hummer H2's are on a GMT900 platform (albeit modified by an outside supplier). That platform is under a half dozen chevies and it ranks high. The H3 is simply a re-bodied GMT355 just like its Chevy Colorado cousin. It makes no sense unless the Hummer image has taken such a hit. Speaking of window regulators, my Dad's '02 LeSabre is having the right rear regulator replaced for the second time..... |

i have owned 4 BMWs in the past and the only one that is still running on original parts is the one built in the 80's. This cars has over 350,000 miles on it. The rest were crap. You can ask anyone that knows a thing or two about BMW's and they would say the same thing. For BMW atleast cars that were built in the 90's and early 2000 were just built as throw away cars. Cheap parts everywhere. |

If you read the story - it's a telephone survey about 'Brand Perception' so a brand can have a negative perception because the CEO took a private jet to a Congressional hearing. or a positive perception because you think the batteries are saving the Polar Bear it means nothing about reliability or performance. |

The pollsters simply asked people to state which auto brand embodies a "trait" that the pollster provided. They did not ask the survey-takers what kind of car they owned, what their actual experiences were, etc. The entire poll was imagination-based. Go figure. Every auto article I've seen online by Yahoo over the last 6 months has been a complete pile of bat guano designed to make people think that they need to buy an Acura, Lexus, or BMW. Here's one case where perception does NOT equal reality! |

I owned a Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS...it was the worst vehicle I ever owned. It was a total junk in less than 3 years. I have had almost zero issues with my Jeep since owning it and I drive it much harder. The only problem I had is that the automatic shifter assembly broke. Im at 48k miles. Best reliablitly I have had in any vehicle to date

I don't know if this Jeep being 17 is really how it is or just Consumer Reports way of precieving things. I have had no issue with my Jeep other than an bad battery and buying tires but all cars need those sometime. I had a 2003 Outback before this Jeep and I had that 2 months and it was in the shop cause it nearly over heated on me on I695. Turned out to be a bad thermostat and dirty coolant they also found I had a front axel seal leaking at the Differential. That was a $500 day. the other winter I had a Fuel leak on the right side. the fuel rail had rused out. Subau's are great cars but not perfect either. So far my Jeep has been relaible as I would hope. |

all mechanical things are designed to do one thing..... break down i have owned mazdas, jeeps, and subaru's....I have had good luck with them all. the test though, as stated is based on perception no fact. they call you and say what vehicle has the best reliability? you say Toyota...and bingo its on the board. none of this is fact just thoughts from 1700 house holds. joe |

NEW YORK -- Toyota is recalling 2.3 million U.S. vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals, the latest in a string of quality problems that have bedeviled the Japanese automaker. The recall includes the 2009-2010 RAV4, the 2009-2010 Corolla, the 2009-2010 Matrix, the 2005-2010 Avalon, the 2007-2010 Camry, the 2010 Highlander, the 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequioia. Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Brian Lyons said the recall is due to the vehicles' pedal mechanism becoming worn and, in some cases, stuck. The recall comes just months after Toyota issued a larger 4.2 million-vehicle recall because of pedals getting stuck due to insecure floor mats. Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. This Don't forget that almost every one of there pickups and SUV's are under a recall for frame rot.The FJ's also have a major problem with the body cracking where the hood hinges are, there is a 250+ page thread all about it on one of the FJ boards. |
