I know we drive Jeeps and they aren't supposed to look pretty all the time, but tonight some.... fill in copious amounts of profanity.... individual had the common courtesy to key my Jeep from the front fender all the way to the rear of the door on the drivers side.
What would one use/do to remedy this unfortunate happening?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Line X your belt line. I know it may cost a little more then paint (maybe not in your case) but I know it is tough as nails. I can Key mine all day long with out a mark on it...

atleast get some spray on detailer wax on it immediately so that it isn't exposed to elements and rust

grab a RO buffer and some clear coat polish from meguires and give it some electric elbow and see if it won't buff out slow and easy

with enough wax, even touch up paint if you have to use it, will blend

took about 3 polishes and 8 coats to blend and disappear a 9 inch gouge in my door, most of the scratch was just in the clear coat, part of it was to the metal/primer

a bit of careful touch up and some really fine sand paper wrapped around a q-tip stick, and half a dozen coats of wax later and you can't tell it was ever there

just to make sure... before you wax, you give it a real good wash with soapiness at the carwash right?

i've always used lemon dawn and some mildly warm water then made sure i got it good and dry, used a old hair dryer to blow the water out of the molding etc

a comfortable stool helps too or even a chair, cause RO buffing isn't something you wanna hurry, just take your time keep even contact and keep the speed down

and drink plenty beer

but yeah, wash it off, get it dry and get some sort of wax on the wound so it doesn't bleed

sorry to hear about your jeep, i know i'm protective of mine, i kinda-sorta threatened to beat all five of the guys that were playing with a football behind it in the parking lot some time ago

kind of pissed them off but they stopped and went elsewhere.. don't think they understood I was just looking out for my investment, just as look after theirs every couple weeks when I chase the crackheads out from between the apartments

That really sucks riptricket. I'm not that concerned with trail damage but I too would be upset if somebody keyed my ride :furious:
I once had an ex girlfriend key my car as she left my yard for the final time  Was she ever pissed.

You probably can't fix the paint finish yourself, have you considered an insurance claim?

There's not much to do to prevent somebody from keying your ride except to park it in a well lit & traveled area of the parking lot. And most important don't cheat on the girlfriend

I will have to look at it when it gets a little lighter outside, I didn't even think on an insurance claim.
The thing that sucked is I wasn't crooked parked, the other car was when I pulled in. I learned me lesson at a really really bad cost. and the worst part was I was only 5 parking spaces out from the main entrance of the mall, and it's the biggest mall here in okc... so that sucks!!!!

Sorry to hear about that man.... I'd look into what LibertyFever said.

I almost put a huge dent in the side of a parked Chevy Blazer the other night. I was parked facing SW during a storm and we were having wind gusts of 40-45mph, from the S, so I expected resistance when I opened the door... instead, I got freak wind gust that ripped the door out of my hands. Boy, am I glad for wide parking spaces or I would be :grim:

Really sorry to hear that man. Some people really and truly do not have soul. Good thing is they will get it all thrown back at them someday.

If its not all the way through the paint you can polish it to help hide it. If its all the way through the paint to the primer or to the metal I would get some touch up paint at the dealer or a local body shop and touch it up. Use very small brushes(body shop will have that) and touch it up many times till its above the surrounding paint. Then wet sand it till its level with the paint again. Polishing the wet sanding marks out and be done. Not much else you can do besides get the whole area repainted.

yeah, so it's through the clear coat and I really don't think I can fix it.
I cleaned it and then waxed it and it just makes the scratch look worse.
