Okay I am in the process of taking off the bolts on my rear diff.
I have broken my joiner from the wrench to the 1/2 socket.
Is there a trick to get this off?
it looks as if the rtv from the factory has seeped out causing a very very tight seal.

Thanks for the help!

I recently change my fluid in mine. After I unbolted everything, I had to take a flat head and pound it between the case and the cover. After a few taps around the whole thing it came off. Be if you start at the bottom and let it drain out then hit the rest of it.

let me know if you need anymore help

You talking about the bolts themselfs? if so my were hard as hell to get off, I had to put a lot of elbow grease to break them. Tryed PB Blaster?

Havin trouble with them 30ft/lb and under bolts? ;)

put the closed end of your 3/4 wrench around the handle of the ratchet and use it for leverage

they shouldn't be that hard to get out unless it's never been done before

I have used a rubber mallet to hit the end of my ratchet as a method to “break” the bolt free.

haha you * i just spilled a quart of mountain dew laughing

but rest assured it's only because the first time I tried to fill a trans case back in the day it looked like i had cut an artery :P

if you've got a gear lube cap, the kind with the nipple ontop that you have to cut off

screw one of those on the ATF bottle

if you've got some plastic hose you can squeeze over the nipple then you'll be able to get the bottle a bit higher above the hole

5 bucks at autozone in the filter wrench section, says it's for gallon bottles but i've had no problem putting one of the 2 extra supplied pieces of hose on the bottom of it and using it

good pump

You can do what I did for the t-case.
MacGayver that shii and make a funnel out of a water bottle, the cap, and a straw and use some skills to pour it in the t-case. :D

But I have a real funnel now. :D

This works like a charm for both transfer case and diffs:
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/g2039.aspx

Also seen them at Harbor freight and Napa run $6-10

Or buy some air tubing like they use for a fish tank, or got to Lowes/HD and buy a foot long section of small tubing... slip that on the nipple of the bottle...

ok well i ended up getting the tcase filled, but i had to purchase another quart. I spilled a ton and it was an awful experience... and I am glad i don't really need to do it again.

Change mine every 6000 miles, never had one issue filling my t-case.I just used one of those gear bottle caps and screwed onto the ATF+4 bottle and squeezed it in,no mess and took less then 10mins total.

Now filling my Atlas is a little more fun but not all that hard either, just I have to remove the bellypan to drain it.

i remember on my old 89 wrangler, i had the floor plugs out and no carpet. so just hooked up a hose to the atf bottle and poured it into the TC through the floor hole :)
