There couldn't be a better use of this area, unless, of course, they were still building Jeeps there!

There is nothing at the site currently, they tore down all of the buildings a few years back well all except for one smokestack. I think it was for sale for like 12 million.
Many have said for years that something like this should be done. I will be surprised if they pull it off though.

I, for one, would be willing to donate to a project like this. Also, an off-road dirt track for professional races could be a big draw and source of income for the city. That kind of thing could be combined with sections open to the public for annual "Jeep Jamborees", etc. And as the seasons change it would go from a dust bowl to a mud hole to a snow pack making for year round wheelin' fun. This is something this group could be good at. Get the word out, write congressman, start pettitions, etc. :2cents: gotta love it

It seems like they're focused on the short term festival-type goals, but I'd love to see the site enhanced (perhaps as phase 2) as a model for a sustainable OHV/festival area, with marked trails and obstacles, as proposed currently, but also with green-space, trees, etc. to remind people that jeeps are the go-anywhere vehicle (i.e. places that are actually nice to see), not just for big dirt lots. I'm sure Toledo wouldn't mind having a park that it can charge entrance fees, recoup food and other vendor leases, etc.

Hooray for them even THINKING about doing something smart with a redevelopment of a significant urban area.

Dan

IF it were to happen I do think it would be a smash hit here. IF it does happen and is done right it would have a major draw from all over.

I have been saying for years something like this was needed. I mean I am an old biker who's made many a trip to the Harley Homecomings in Milwaukee, so....
Why can't Jeep have a home coming every year in Toledo
Man the $$$ that would come to town in food, refreshments etc. I would think every club in town, every hotel etc would back this plan.

They stole my idea! Living around the corner from this property ( my exit off I75 is Willys Pkwy ) I have seen it sitting vacant with a For Sale sign for a couple years now and have talked about this very thing. Every time I go downtown Toledo I drive by and look and plan in my head. They need to talk to me! I've already got it all laid out... rock garden here, mud bog there, sand drags over there. Hope this gets off the ground but knowing how the Toledo goverment works we'll just have to wait and see.

it would be cool if they did something likat what GM did with the corvette. Make a Jeep museum and also have toursof the plant. i think that you would have jeep people from all over the world come and see it

Run for city council. You already have the platform (pun intended). You'd get all the jeep votes...
